The vehicle in question is an automatic 2002 new Beetle TDI (ALH).
Recently, I installed an alternator from AutoZone.
Before the installation, the vehicle was doing just fine until one day, if I were not on the gas, the electronics would die slowly (EX: idling)
I figured it was a charging issue and went straight to replacing the alternator. During the job, I broke the connector (Image attached), so I got a new one and spliced it in.
Everything else went as it should have without issue.
after the installation, the car would run when jumped but had some crazy electrical issues, so I figured I did it backward when I spliced my wires in. I tried the other direction, and the issues went away. However, the battery still isn't charging while running. I have tried more than one battery, so I'm sure that's not at fault.
a couple of weeks prior, my fusebox on the alternator melted, so I replaced it, but the new part was from a manual (150a instead of 110a). I don't think this is relevant, but what do I know?
the only thing I can think of is my alternator being a dud or me bricking it with the reversed wires.
any help would be greatly appreciated as I need the car running to go on a 2500-mile trip by the 21st
