ALH timing belt miracle

Customer brought in an ALH Jetta with 390k miles for a timing belt change. Here's what I found when I started taking the car apart:



Tensioned backwards



This was how loose the belt was when the car came in before disassembly. That is my index finger pushing down on the belt at the small upper idler. I can't believe this thing was running and driving fine.

Just thought some of you would get a kick out of this.

Clean and dump the intercooler, that thing never saw anything over 3K RPM! LOL!

Looks like that small idler bearing is gone too. Isn't it off center or maybe just camera angle?

It was the angle of my iPhone. Intercooler Had no oil pooled either.
