First i want to say thank you to everyone for your help getting my sons 99 Jetta up and running properly again. Now that his car is functional i can work on mine.
I have 02 Jetta 5 speed with the ALH engine it had been sitting for 5 years or so brouight a fresh battery and some oil with me to try and start it to at least drive it onto the trailer to get it home, low and behold after checking the fluids and cranking for about 30 seconds it came to life no questions asked, smoked a fair amount but figured that would happen just due to it sitting for so long and something had moved into the exhaust which came right out as the car was running.
Got it home put 5 gallons of fresh diesel in it along with some seafoam and took my son driving up and down our dirt road letting him learn to drive a 5 speed while we were getting his up and running worked flawlessly, week or two later went to move it around to the shop and it had a hard time starting, smoked like crazy, and would no get above 1200 RPM, figured the seafoam knocked some stuff loose so changed the fuel filter and bled it through the injection pump, that did not change anything, got a generic scan tool, and the codes that i pulled out of it are P0251 injection pump fuel metering control A, P0252 Injection pump fuel metering control A range/ performance, and finalla P0401 EGR flow insufficient,
planning on starting with the vacum lines and inspecting the harness for the pump as i have seen in some of the other threads on this forum, any other places i should be checking common gasket leak points, seemed to always get a tiny air bubble through the fuel line when i was bleeding the pump pulled 2 quarts of fuel through the pump with a hand vacum pump on the outlet of the pump
Sorry for the long rambling post just wanted to get the detail in there.
Thank you
