So, I had a bad habit of stocking up parts for my ALH. Apparently, I have a new old stock LASO water pump from 2005. Bought it from Dieselgeek who no longer sells it. Is it safe to install or should a source a different one? Any thoughts you wise folks?

Opinions incoming.
Mine is that I would run it if it was German-made. If the spindle seems nice and smooth.
Check the box it came in. Some parts with bearings have an expiration date, some don't.
Personally, I doubt sitting on a shelf for years would kill a bearing. It would be an easier life than spinning for years in an alternating hot/cold and vibrating environment.
But I would most likely buy a fresh o-ring for it (038121119)!

Metal impeller. According to Dieselgeek back in 2009, it was German made too.

Lasos were good. No longer available. Given it's close to 10 years old I'd be a little concerned about the durability of the o-ring.

5 years old and still in the box? Does it still spin smoothly? Was it stored indoors or at least somewhere that isn't humid? If so, then you're find to install it. Once upon a time I worked in a parts store. This was back before inventories were centralized, and so we had a huge storeroom full of stuff. Some of the parts in there, like a few odd ball GM water pumps and brake cylinders, had been back there for at least 20 years. The were well kept in their boxes though, and looked beautiful.

Y'all have some funny calendars -- 5 years old? Close to 10 years?

I'm so ancient that I struggle with the idea that a car sold in 2003 is "old," because to me old cars were made in the 1950's, but... 2005 was 18 years ago.

Cars from my youth are only 'older'. Only old cars then are really old. Not that I would fail to welcome my 300C-powered, 1955 St. Regis coupe back... :)
