So, seems like no posts for a couple of years unless the thread was moved. I'm also mating a VW ALH to a W56 using a TD Conversions adapter plate. I was wondering if you encountered any interference between the starter motor and the turbo. I called TD Conversions and the guy there said it is a very tight fit and others have decided to make a custom exhaust manifold and do a top-mounted turbo. I, personally, don't like this idea because the exhaust manifold ends up being very close to the intake manifold basically undoing any cooling from the intercooler not to mention having to fabricate your own exhaust manifold. The guy I talked to said the header pipe is so close to the starter motor that you can't even wrap it to protect the starter motor from heat. If you have finished your build I would love to see any photos you have of how the turbo, header and starter motor fit!
I found this youtube video
and it looks like there is plenty of room for the turbo but the header pipe is a tight fit around the adapter plate and bellhousing. However, fabricating the header pipe is much easier, IMO, than dealing with interference with the turbo.

This is the truck build portion, the engine is going... slowly due to the machine shop taking forever.

I can take some pics and post some details tonight regarding clearance, as I currently have it mocked up.

One issue I'll have to sort is exhaust routing down the passenger side - I'll probably come through the wheel well a la Mercedes G wagen, and run it behind the rocker.

I ended up getting a 2056 from Pioneering performance, bottom mount. It's fairly large so should give a good idea.

Worth noting is that TD conversions is now using a different starter than what I'm using.
