While trying to tighten one of the 18mm bolts that mounts the engine to the body mount after doing a timing belt, the threads stripped... before I even got to the torque phase. One bolt torqued properly, but the other stripped.

So my question - even though the body mount bolts have already been torqued (30ft lb + 90 degrees), since I'm not using the car yet, can I theoretically reuse those bolts (since I obviously need to replace the engine mount - I won't get timeserts in time)? Or will this necessitate new bolts? I might be lucky and have new bolts somewhere, but I'm not sure.

And... I just realized that my half of my question is moot, because I'd have to redo the timing belt job if I pull the aluminum mount (and I got everything perfectly in time. My question still stands about reusing bolts, or if I should just get new ones.

You cannot torque TTY bolts twice.

I didn't think so, but figured I'd ask anyways. Now I'm hoping I do in fact have a second set of bolts so I can finish this Thursday when my timeserts arrive.

Can you re-use them and not have the car self-immolate, though....?
Given the number of (obviously because they're the ones with green anti-corrosion treatment) re-used 16mm mount-to-body bolts that I've seen on a number of TB jobs that have come to me, the answer to that is yes.

Should you, though? That's between you and your deity of choice.

Are you sure you'll need to redo timing, though?

I seem to remember that I put the bracket back onto the motor after I timed it and set the tensioner. But I'm getting old and forgetful, so...

You don’t have to redo the timing.
The threads are in the lower mount .
You can even do the time sert installation while it’s in the car, done that too. The upper mount that’s bolted to the block pull the bolts out and move it around till you have clearance to drill and tap. Raise the engine with a jack to give you more room , this way you don’t waste the two bolts that are used to bolt the lower mount to the body. Just my .02.

I've reused the m10, mount to body bolts, on my own rigs, without penalty. You can feel when they're done yielding. Actually, about three uses does them in. Always new on customer cars, but my own junk, it's fine.
