So I want reliability and drive-ability over everything else. I have a 03 ALH and I am looking to replace the turbo. I will ultimatum get upgraded tuning (Malone STG3 Custom to Malone STG5 Custom) and .260 Nozzles Wuzetem.

I have a clutch SBE STG3 Daily (Love IT), ARP head studs, ProfiDiesel 2.5 SS exhaust, Upgraded IC and Piping, PP520, and Malone STG3 Custom.

I am looking at like VNT15 spool time and I don't want to do engine internal work. I am looking at a PD150 airbox to turbo upgrade as well.

So the which turbos:

GTD1752VRK Ball Bearing rated for 230HP at 29PSI

GTB2060VKLR Ball Bearing rated for 300HP at 34psi

I am leaning more the 1752 as I read 28 PSI is the max for stock internals.

:confused:But would the 2060 (detuned) offer longer reliability?

I cant really find maps on these and not super sure how to read them.

I was considering a 1756 internals in a VNT17 (17/56 hybrid) but after reading on here by several different owners the felt the journal bearings made the spool time to long.

If you want vnt 15 spool time then 1752vrk is probably the best out of the bunch...nozzles you have at the moment are small however the car should shift nicely once you get the 0.260...

I have a 1752MFS @ 24 psi and .230 injectors w/ a Stage 4 tune, the car is @ full boost around 2100 rpms or so. I have no experience with the 2060, but I'm looking at it once I do work inside the motor.

Jptbay how is the spool? I like those options because of all bearings and reasonable price.

That's why I was thinking GTB2060 GT20 exhaust turbine and 60mm compressor with ball bearings. I hope someone with it gives me positive insights.

I have xman's 1752... I could have sworn I saw 30.0 psi shortly after I smashed the pedal to the ground in 4th gear

No experience with the gtb2060vklr, but I have the gtd1752vrk on my mk4 alh jetta with .240 injectors and 11mm pump. Pulls better off the bottom end than the stock vnt15 ever did and cruises up hills in 6th gear that would have required a downshift with the stock turbo. I've seen 15 lbs of boost at 1200 rpm which is pretty decent in my books.

18/56 spools fast.

King of the hybrids IMO. Hits all the right sweet spots.

Now there's some spooling, 15#s at 1200rpm, wow!

Do you have any graph or video from driving/accelerating on your ALH with GTD1752vrk ?
i am pretty much interested to see how it works :D

jptbay that may be true but you have a host of engine work. The most I am going to do in ARP head Studs. What boost levels are you running?

shakescreek wow thats Instant Boost looking at my stock VNT15 its full boost (18psi) at 1700-1900rpm.

15 psi at 1200 what top pressure do you run and when is it fully boosted? It looks like they are rated foe 28-30PSI max.

cuban11182 any reason why only 24 psi??? what did you have to attach the downpipe i also have a Profidiesel 2.5 turbo back.

Can anyone confirm what boost pressure they are running on a stock ALH internals? I read 26 t0 28 psi but its all over the board.

Prior to putting in the ASV pistons and rods, which I did when repairing the engine after my wife drove it through a deep puddle and hydro locked it, I ran this turbo with stock internals at about 26 psi. Directed my tuner to keep things between 180-200 hp low 300 lbs to save the bottom end and was careful to not lug the engine when WOT.

After rebuild I told my tuner to give it full cock. Up to about 28 psi now and more fueling and aggressive timing. Boost spools very fast, but I usually don't pin it WOT until 2000 rpm, due to prior habit.

If memory serves I think it tops out around 26 psi and will make that from around 1700-1800 rpm on up. I rarely put my foot in it enough to see full boost though, and can't just run out and try it for you as the car sits at the end of a dirt road and I go by boat from there to my home(will be snowmobile soon). I normally avoid heavy throttle at low rpm's, as I think the pcp's get pretty high. I do have arp headstuds but even so would be a little concerned about headgasket longevity so have only seen the 15 psi at 1200 rpm a couple of times when I first had it together and wanted to see what it would do. I am geared pretty tall with the 6 spd tranny and 205/75/15 tires so am just a little over 1600 rpm at my usual 105ish kmh cruise speed. With the stock turbo and injectors it was too doggy at that speed in sixth to hold speed on any significant hill but with the gtd1752vrk and larger injectors along with a tune from Ruben(rub87 here on the club) it is much nicer to drive.

Wasn't Daniel Boone supposed to have said "if you can see the smoke from your neighbours chimney they're to close". I would have to agree with that statement. I have 87 acres on the Stikine river, but with the nearest neighbour about 10 km away and no roads, for all intents and purposes it's like having 87,000 acres. It's not that I don't like people but I could never handle all the rules and regulations that go along with living in a highly populated area.

Ditto! People lug the TDIs all the time. All that torque stresses the lower end IMO. And they shift to early. Who needs boost below 2000rpm? Downshift fer chrissake.

My butt dyno tells me the engine runs best, when driving hard, at 2500-4000rpm through the gears. Cruising at hwy speeds in 5th (.717) I'm
doing 75mph at 2400. Wanna' pass? The turbo is ready to go,,,,,,,,

Gottuned supplies a V-band adapter with their kits, you'd have to ask someone who's installed one about the ease of use.

One more thing where did you get your turbo from? Can you tell me about your setup?

racer,

Be aware that shaker is running a GTD1752vklr, the D refers to a 4th generation VNT system, and the vk means it's running on ceramic ball bearings, not a journal.

You refer to a GTB 1752, not really in the same league for quick spool.
And IMO you need a catchcan, I'll show you when we get together.

Cheers

I bought mine from the for sale section here on the club from user name intaketommy. Had planned to buy from AVD Turbo http://www.turbo-upgrade.com/produse/ball-bearing-turbocharger-gtd1752vrk/131/but he wouldn't ship to a post office box which is all we have available here, then intaketommy posted one for sale so I grabbed it. Not sure what else I can tell you about my setup. Besides the gtd turbo I have .240 injectors(from Darkside), 11mm pump,fmic,3bar map, and the long runner 2 piece sdi intake manifold with the plastic top piece and aluminum bottom. 2.5" straight through exhaust with a resonator but no cat or muffler. I have a lathe here in my shop so I machined my own flanges to fit the turbo hotside inlet and outlet. Welded one to the exhaust manifold and the other to the downpipe and bolted it on. The vband setup is really nice as it allows you to rotate the turbo and tighten it down at any angle you want it at. Tuning is by rub87(none better in my opinion). The car was originally auto but I swapped in a 6 spd manual from Ryan(Darkside in the UK). I'm running the pd150 240mm clutch and dmf with that. I think that pretty much covers what I've done to the car.

hmmmm...price varies a bit between them. I wonder who has the better welder, or if it is the same. I should probably ask...;)

Rrusse11, the GTD1752 is a VRK, no 'L' for liquid cooling

Thanks for the correction, the world of turbos is complicated, and I'm still
learning.
