Good luck with your search. When I was looking to buy, every TDI I saw in the paper was sold by the time I called. Then I got lucky and was the first caller for an ad, and took it. The dealers like Dean Mccrary were way overpriced in my opinion.

I found an 06 jetta with 131,000 miles, engine replaced by VW under extended warranty at 88,000. Clutch assembly replaced at 113,000 miles. It also had a run-in with a deer and damaged the hood, right fender and door. All repaired by VW shop. The only concern is when cold it will bogg down a little in first gear, just shift to second and there is no problem. It doesn't do this after it is warm. There is also a CD stuck in the radio!

We are leaving in the morning for Lexington, SC to look at it..not sure if we'll drive or fly up (I've got to check the weather). Pictures look good, interior is clean, exterior is good with no missalignments in the repaired area. The original owner traded it in on a new Jetta. They also have all the service records...printed from the VW dealership (many of which I have reviewed. Anyway... $12,900 out the door. Hope it turns out to be a good deal!

Sounds like a good find if the issues are dealt with. Then again, I've never bought a used car that I didn't have to fix a few minor things off the bat. As long as that transmission doesn't turn out to be a serious problem. Good price for an 06!

Chelsea area as well. I think I put Birmingham for locality purposes.

Sourmash,
I use Hutchinson as well and I think they do a great job. I think they keep a high level of trust with their customers.

My previous TDI passed on (sob sob) but I'll be okay. Currently running a 4motion Passat and looking for a Beetle. I've yet to see any TDI's in the area for purchase that weren't ubar over priced.

DonohooAuto has a Beetle with 84000 and are asking 14k for it. Zoikes!
Sweet! I haven't been in here in quite a while, but glad to see someone else in Chelsea! I only really drive the NB to work and back so it's only out of the garage for a short time...but it's Techno Blue and has a South Carolina Flag (Palmetto w/ crescent moon) sticker in the back window...so honk if you see me.

Can't help you with any opinion about Stokely Service Center. But you may want to look at this thread for ideas about your white smoke problem: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=194194

Just an FYI for Mobile, Al area folks. The Mystic gas station on Airport and Azalea Rd has their diesel for 2.89. I am planning on going out there tonight and purchase 100 gallons for the Jetta and may also fill up the motorhome (150 gallons). The going price around Mobile is around 3.29.

Hi - another Alabama newbie. I'm in Bessemer with a white '03 Golf. If anyone in the area needs any help I'm not way mechanically minded but if an extra pair of hands would be useful pm me. I've driven VWs all my life (this is my first diesel) and I'd like to learn to be a bit more self sufficient on the maintenance front.

Will do.
Do me a favor, stop if you see me on the side of the road. My oil light (low pressure light number 13) is going off intermittently right now (bleh, I just got the dadgum number 2 injector replaced).

Santa is supposedly helping me out with jackstands/jack/metal nerd caliper tool/and other goodies for brake repair this year...we'll see how that goes.

See you around....

I plan to call Stokely's Service Center today to discuss my TDI issues. So far, this is the only place I've read about that has an interest in TDI's in the Mobile, AL area. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Merry Christmas to all!

Wish I could help ya out, but I have no useful knowledge regarding the PD engine. Is this the bogging down in 1st problem that you mentioned earlier?

Yes, that is part of the problem. Driving home several nights ago it started making a scraping/grinding noise when turning the steering wheel...not a full lock turn, but when turning shallow...like at an intersection. There was also a clunking sound when I rolled over the small hump at the beginning of my driveway. I feel that something major has broke loose. I was thinking possibly a motor mount...but I'm not sure. I may pull the shroud off the bottom of the engine and take a look over the weekend.

I contacted Stokley's Service Center in Mobile. They were getting ready to close for Christmas. The lady I spoke with was very polite and did confirm that they DO work on TDI's. She suggested that I speak with Perry Stokley (owner) by phone or when I bring the car in. I'll let everyone know either what I find...or what they find!

Before someone asks :) ...I did take a quick look at the CV joints (outter only) and there is no evidence of an issue there. ...in any case, the noises do not sound like it is CV related.

Was the scraping/grinding sound mettalic, or did it sound like interference with the tire? The clunking could be the usual suspects... worn rubber swaybar bushings, top strut mount and/or bearing problem.

GTG Intake Manifold Cleaning

I'm in Lewisburg, TN..less than an hour from Athens and Huntsville. I'm very interested in getting together for a mass intake manifold cleaning and swapping ideas. I have never cleaned my intake manifold and could use some assistance. I can do a Ventectomy, add 5th Brake Light, CCV Mod, or clean your EGR easily. I just lack the experience of the intake cleaning.

The guy I used for the timing belt install/upgrade was Chambers in Athens. It took him less than 7 hours to install it and he does great work. Here's his information.

Flyboy, I would be interested to hear about your experiences with Stokley's. I will be needing a CV joint replaced soon, and am triing to keep my options open.

I had my first timing belt done at Port City Foreign Auto on Halls Mill. I was pretty happy with them, and will likely stick with them for the CV job, unless there are glowing recomendations elsewhere.

Thanks

I keep getting a code P0106 and have tried everything to fix it. Anyone around here have a VAG-COM they wouldn't mind using on my '02 Jetta? Free beer in it for you...lol.

Hey Alabama folks! My parents live in Huntsville and I plan to move back in early '08 as the real estate market in La is very very slow. I used to live in Birmingham and I can steer you to a good vw only indie shop there if anyone needs a recommendation. I'd like to see someone throw a GTG here in North Alabama in the spring or early summer. I see TDIs rolling all around town, keep an eye out for my tomato(tornado in VW speak) red Jetta.

I'm interested in a No. Abalama GTG. Huntsville is only an hour from me. And yes, I meant to spell it like that...lol. :D
I'm still looking for some help. I really could use a buddy with a VAG-COM.

Hello Farmer. We're close. I get down to your neck of the woods every once in a while. I'm interested in purchasing a VAG-COM, but would like to see it operate before I throw so much money at it. Let me know if you find someone nearby that can help us out.

If you want to get together, maybe we can help each other out in the meantime. I am very capable of doing a Ventectomy, 5th Brake Light, CCV Mod, Snowscreen Removal or an EGR Cleaning. Oh, if you ever have trouble with the armrest falling down, I can fix that, too.

I'm changing out my computer and some more vacuum lines tomorrow to see if that solves my problem. I hope it does.

2000 VW Beetle TDI - Most frustrating car that ever lived (which might not be too much longer)
moving down there soon.

I'm moving to Mobile, AL this spring/summer and just wanted to say hi on this thread too. Currently in Atlanta, GA, but my husband's in the Coast Guard and we're getting transferred to Mobile as soon as his training is finished. Should be interesting being back on the Gulf after living on the Pacific for 4 years! Glad to see there's some TDI activity!
