I have an 06 TDI Jetta. Every time I start the car I hear a buzzing noise under the glove box. It lasts for about 5 seconds---feels like 3 minutes.

I can easily replicate the noise by pushing the recir air button on my air control. Also I noticed when I put the car in reverse it also triggers it.

I mentioned it to the dealer (who managed to rotate my tires and crank the lug nuts with about 400ft-lbs of torque) that the car was making the noise (out of warranty). They told me it is a major project and would cost over $1K.

Has anyone else experienced this problem. My guess is that it is the actuator or something like that on the damper...not quite sure how it works.

Just curious if there is an easy fix. 92Kmi and this is my first "problem". Not bad.

TIA

Apparently you're the first.
The earlier (10+ years ago) air supply flaps were operated by a solenoid valve under the hood that could rust and stick in one position, but no noise, and definitely no ability to duplicate by selecting reverse gear.

Not sure what is causing the noise but it does it when you put it in reverse because the car automaticly goes into recirc in reverse to keep you from sucking in fumes while backing up....

Its kinda cool... Wish I could offer more help..
