Because the Passat wagon is based on the European Passat that is smaller than the North American Passat. They would have to completely retool the factory in Tennessee or import vehicles in order to get either of those vehicles here. It doesn't make sense for them to do that.

And despite what people here would like to see, in general Americans don't by station wagons. They buy SUVs. I think VW and Volvo are the only car makers left selling a 2WD wagon in the US.

2010 JSW TDI silver and black. 2017 Ram Ecodiesel dark red with brown and beige interior.
For you that keep up with this news, why won't VW bring the new passat or passat wagon to the states? It certainly has nice features and would sell to those that have been buying passats.

Profit and therefore selling price. Those are the biggest reasons that we have the nms, US built Passat. The German built Passat was getting to expensive for the market bracket.

Wouldn't call the Venza a wagon. And M-B only has AWD. As does BMW and Audi. Acura dropped the TL wagon this year. Forgot about Cadillac.

Digging the digital dash- particularly the boost gauge and g-meters in blue. Hitch is pretty cool too. And I like how the commentator flat out tells you that the 150 hp engine is fine and not to waste your cash on the 240 hp version.

+1.

Do you know the place I can rent conversion van? I had an idea to take kids and some my family on trip Yellow Stone, but visit on way the couple cities and sights.

While I don't hate them, I tend to shy away from SUV due to the inefficient layout and inherently more dangerous propensity to roll over. Think about this, the floor height is higher to accommodate the four wheel drive system which means less cargo room than a comparably sized minivan.

Now compare this to a minivan, where the floor is not much higher than a sedan.
This is a center of gravity thing. Hauling 300 lbs of stuff higher off the ground leads to more instability. Also, the majority of the load area in an SUV is behind the axle, compared to over or in front of it. This tends to over load the rear of the vehicle, leading to unsafe handle characteristics. (I load my work van with the heaviest stuff in the middle, through the side door. My father works out of the rear end. Guess whose van feels safer? Comparatively speaking)

Now, how about that totally awesome third row seat? In an SUV, the third row seats are usually really small and flimsy, so as not to take up much space when folded. Compare to a minivan where they are actual seats. With actual leg room! A seat has to be strong enough to not deform or flex backwards.

There is a study, though I am not sure where, that shows the compromise in seat back integrity and proximity to the rear door/window is super dangerous for children. There may even be video of it.

That said, my wife and I drive tdi passats, and if I have to carry more than 5 people, I take my full size conversion van. I would totally drive a minivan for hauling purposes, be it cargo or people though.

Oh, and I would do some pretty unsavory things for a passat wagon like the one in the video....maybe. That is one badass ride!

Unfortunately the boost gauge does not appear to be very accurate. Better than nothing, I suppose.

Don't really know what is in store for the US market but I do know my tour of Chattanooga plant was cancelled for late December. Reasons stated model year changeover and they don't want anyone in the plant. I am hoping for the best!
