I've done a bit of searching here and my head is swimming with talk of IQs, shutter etc. I haven't got the concentration for this kind of thing, not yet anyway but I'm working on it!

I have an AFN engine and I've fitted a VNT1749VA to it along with 0.216 nozzles and a front mount intercooler. Other than that it's unchanged. It's still on the stock map. It's not smoky at all at idle and only at full throttle does it give a bit of smoke. Anything other than full throttle and it's fairly smoke-free.

I'm planning on having it remapped soon. Is there anything I should tell the mapping whizz kid or just leave it in his capable hands? What kind of BHP can I reasonably expect from my setup? Are there any other simple mods I should make beforehand to get the most out of the expense of the remap?

This is all in an effort to campaign a cheap-ass drag car, in the form of my mk1 Jetta. This is it at full throttle for an idea of the smoke:

Just shout if you need a remap, my AFN is now at 190bhp and I've done remaps for a range of AFN's, from standard to tuned ones (VA/BV43 turbo's, 0.216/PP764/R520 nozzles etc etc

What clutch are you running? I'd say you want bigger nozzles and a BV43 turbo for plug and play simplicity. R520 nozzles with stock pump and BV43 at 1.7bar will see a nice 180bhp+

thanks mk1-83 :) what's a darkside VA?

thanks too bhodgkiss :) you mean you can do a remap without having the car in front of you? Do you not need a dyno to make the most of a remap?

I have a 205mm clutch in place at the moment and there's no slip. In fact, I'm getting wheelspin even with soft tarmac rally tyres. I have a 228mm (VR6/G60) clutch and flywheel on the shelf waiting to go in.

re the BV43 turbo and R520 nozzles:
I presume the BV43 is a VNT turbo? In which cars are they commonly found?
Are those R520 nozzles aftermarket or are they on any factory cars?

My AFN was remapped in the US. I'm in Devon :D Experienced tuners can get it pretty close to start with and then logging parameters in VCDS tells them the unique tweaks they need for a particular engine.

The BV43 is from the CR170 engine. R520 nozzles are aftermarket from Bosio - equivalent to .260.

When is the next drag race event happening?

the next full 1/4 mile is next March, at Bishopscourt. If you're happy to run a 1/8th mile sprint, then there's one coming up at the end of November, also in Bishopscourt. Look up dragraceireland.com. They're on Facebook too. Same name

Fit a 3bar map sensor to the car to raise the boost and use a tuning box to raise the fuelling. Also port out a pd130 intake manifold and fit an 11mm pump. After that fit a đecent 1749vb hybrid or 2052 to get the required boost.

Well how you going? Was wondering did you ever find anyone to remap your afn? As I have a 99 audi a4 b5 afn 110bhp it has a tuning box (not sure of make or model) but was hoping to get more or what kind of power I could get on standard turbo?

With a good map about 145 bhp...turbo can't do more. You have to go to the gt1749va from the pd 130 to get any more power and also upgrade nozzles...

Hi folks new here. Iv recently bought an A4 B5 quattro TDI AFN 110. The car is totally standard and I'm basically looking to have it mapped for a bit more power. I'm based in northern Ireland. Im just looking to keep it totally standard for now regarding turbos and fueling ect but have it remapped for more power. Thanks in advance

Because your ECU will need to be socketed before any mapping takes place, try to find someone selling a socketed and remapped ECU and swap it for your stock one. Make sure it's de-immobilised too and it'll be plug-and-play.

Matching ecu on these old platforms is a doddle, it just needs adapting the ecu in engine measuring blocks !
as pointed above in the post, the ecu is a msa15 which require de soldering the stock chips and soldering new sockets to take re-writable chips !
As above, you need a 3 bar map sensor to make the most of your engine, stock 2.5 bar will be saturated at any boost over the factory map.
The good old AFN responds so well to turning upgrades, the bv43 from the 170 bhp Audi A4 b7 is plug and play and good for over 200 bhp. A set of nozzles (0.216, 0.260) will do a dramatic change in fuel delivery but it needs to be taken into account in the tune !
A pd 130 intake along with an intercooler upgrade from the v6 tdi Audi A4 will make wonders…also a 11mm pump is a welcome addition to the recipe !

Thanks for your reply and all that info. I'll take a screenshot shot of all this info. In a dramatic twist of events my old AFN b5 quattro might get put on the back burner for now as iv found a nice 2002 b6 1.9tdi quattro sport sunroof model laying up and I'm just waiting on the owner making a decision on weather he will sell me it🤞🤞. It's looking good so far as it's been sitting up 2 years now but he has owned it for like 18 years so he's rather attached to it at the same time lol. Saying I get it I think I'll put the old b5 away and tune the b6. Wish me luck🤣
