2004 audi a4 1.9tdi saloon sport
Hi everyone,

Just joined the forum having recently purchased a 2004 audi a4 1.9tdi saloon sport pd130 engine. Previously owned a audi a4 1.9tdi estate from 2000 with the pd115 engine which went on to do 340000+ miles although I only owned it for a short period towards the end it was a fantastic car and I have been keenly looking for another pd engined motor since.

Bit of background on the new car, 1 owner from new, done 83000 miles and has been serviced every year, in very good condition inside and out. Im looking ot keep the car for the long term as I know they can be bombproof and go well for years with the right treatment.

Does anyone have any recommendations for tips and tricks with servicing, in terms of frequency, the best oil to use etc, injector cleaners worth it ? Forte turbo for keeping the turbo in good nick? Also any particular issues to be aware of at certain mileages outside of the usual things. Basically looking for any info from expierienced owners as to what their must do checklist looks like for a PD engined car to give it the best chance at longevity.

would be very appreciative of any advice going forward.

many thanks

I've had two PD, a 2.0 BHW in a Passat (B5 'facelift', or B5.5) with the Z-F 6 speed auto 'tiptronic', and a 1.9 BEW in a Jetta (Bora) variant with 5 speed manual.
Other than the chain guide casting for the chain driven balance shaft (not present in your 1.9) in the BHW, the engines were expectedly robust. Both had their cam shafts replaced at about 175~185k miles, but then my 1Z, AHU, ALH 1.9 TDI cams all started to show initial wear, and I replaced the cams in those at that distance as well. No other engine issues.
I did use the 505.01 specified oil, and 10k mile oil and filter intervals. I also used, nearly exclusively, ASTM biodiesel at 99% during 3 seasons, and self-mixed to about B50 for my New England winters. No additives, I felt no need for them.
I replaced fuel filters annually just before winter to minimize cold thickening and flow reduction. I also was diligent about cam timing belt and tensioner replacement, usually performing my own replacements.

The OP's "... particular model ..." is a UK market Audi A4 with 130 PD. I don't know of a Fred's forum with details on that.
zep29: please reply with your engine's 3, or 4 letter code designation. I was unable to locate any that was available in 2004 A4 and had 130 hp.

There is one for the PD cars here in the US. Would the things they asked for be much different?
