Hi there. I'm a new TDI owner (2012 vw golf 357000 km) and was wondering if I should be using any fuel additives when I fuel up. My new old car was really well maintained and runs more like a vehicle that has less than half the km. I live in Ontario Canada and try to fuel at well traveled gas stations that see regular diesel traffic. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Yes, a quality additive that adds some lubricity and helps keep injectors clean, operating as efficiently as new, absolutely recommended for any and every diesel.

ESPECIALLY for the CP4 high pressure fuel pump equipped cars, though. I've seen some very high mile CP4 pumps with regular use of Stanadyne Lubricity Formula. I'm sure Opti-Lube XPD will also accomplish similar results. Those would be the top two on my list with a specific focus on lubricity for the high pressure pump in your engine.

I have a '12 with just over 300k km. I use power service, white bottle (winter stuff) year round, most of the time. I bought the car new and plan to keep it going as long as possible. Take your front wheel well liners out and clean the fender and lower part out, dirt will collect and rot the sills out. Undercoat it well especially in the sills and fenders and hatch. My doors were just starting to bubble around the handles. (warrenty repair).
My emmissions system has been fixed so it cant cause any more issues, if yours causes any grief, i recommend the same. The oil stays cleaner longer too which cant be bad.
Enjoy the car!

Totally up to you. Not required but won't hurt either. At times you may want to use some for cold weather maybe. Many use them and many don't.

I havent used any of that stuff in my car and it has 345k on it, But idk if this helps but I fill up roughly every 6-7 days so the fuel doesnt sit long. I just fill up at trusted stations and keep records of everytime I fill up incase there is contamination. I do plan on doing a CP3 though just for peace of mind.

I've used Stanadyne Performance and Hot Shot's Secret EDT in both my CJAA and CKRA. I initially started using the EDT in my Passat as a trial. I have noticed enough of a mpg increase that it pays for the product, especially when fuel prices were higher. I also seems to keep the engine running quieter. I have kept using it on the piece of mind that it may help protect my HPFP.

I used to run power service or some other snake oil that supposed to help things, now i only run PS in the fuel filter during changes. Hopefully those big bottles don't go bad.

Thank you all for the replies. They are very helpful. The previous owner did an emissions delete and the required tune. I'm told that the tune was not for performance, but it certainly feels very peppy.

As I do research on my engine I realize that doing a CP3 upgrade may be a good idea. The question now is will a CP3 require me to redo the tune (I have no details on what tune he did exactly). Thanks in advance for all the support on this forum.

I've heard from different people you do and you dont. I do know if you run the 2200bar pressure sensor, you got to get it retuned. But if youre doing a CP3, you might as well do that sensor so, I guess in the end you have to get retuned

That's a great idea. Never thought of undercoating the fenders to really maximize their life. Finally found a use for that bottle of rubber undercoat!!

2010 Golf TDI with 240k miles. Used Powerservice (white or silver) at nearly every fill up. I change the fuel filter every 20k. The car runs great. First 13 years of ownership were mostly B5 diesel in TX. Now that I live in CA I mostly fill up with 76 or Costco renewable diesel.

Cold snap coming to Texas. Told my daughter to use some additive just in case. Found out the def spout fits the Power service bottle and made a neat spout for pouring it in. I had saved several of these in her trunk when adding def.

Im curious, being from Canada. What temperature is considered a cold snap in texas?

Also screws onto certain oil containers which makes filling engine oil less messy.

Ive been using Hotshot's EDT virtually every fill-up and do my fuel filter changes early, checking the CP4 inlet screen each time and inspecting the residual fuel in the filter canister. I have the CP3 kit on hand however. Just trying to find the time and money to have my local shop install it.

I'm using up the last bit of Stanadyne that the previous owner had left over, but have a gallon of Opti-Lube XPD just waiting to take over when the time is right.

I have a question for the braintrust though. Hypothetically, if I was refueling my vehicle from fuel jugs instead of a station pump, would there be enough mixing action from the fuel transfer to fully mix the additive? Should I add the additive to the jugs, give it a shake or two, then transfer into the vehicle?

Add it to the tank and add the fuel. Either way will work, your's or this one. Either way the fuel will be recirculating due to pumping more than enough for the engine and back to the tank, when running.

OK...I just got a 1 owner 2009 JSW 2.0 CBEA with 188k miles on the clock. This is my 4th TDI first CR TDI. I needed a car (my 05 Passat TDI was in an accident and the shop that did the head work screwed up...rebuild didn't go as planned) to drive to Nebraska... I live in Mesa, AZ... The dealer said the DPF was deleted so the light was on... I smelled BS...I could also see the DPF, I didn't tell him I was a mechanic. Anyway, not the reason I'm commenting. I ran Hot Shot Extreme Diesel fuel cleaner at max ratio for the trip to Nebraska (the day after I bought it) I didn't check the DPF load... but I knew it had to be above 200ml soot level. When I was almost to Colorado I noticed the DPF light went off. I continued running the HS cleaner at max ratio. When I got to my destination in Nebraska, I pulled my Autel tablet out and found the soot level had gone down to 7ml! FROM +200ml DOWN TO 7! I wish I had checked the soot level before I left. Running at the max ratio seemed to hurt the fuel economy, I hand calculate my fuel milage/gallon and got around 33-34 going 75mph solid. Now I've cut down on the ratio to just a couple ounces/fill-up I've noticed 35mpg at my last fill but I've been driving in town now too. I've only just gotten the car. I use the Hot Shot Stiction Eliminator oil additive in my other TDIs too...

Might try this with my passat. Did you just pour it in max ratio on a full tank?

I put it in at the station right before I filled the tank.
I actually put in (diesel safe) seafoam yesterday before a small 60 mile run and the EGR valve is now clogged, preventing the car from turning over. I wonder if it has anything to do with loosening all that carbon? I'll look into HS.

Maybe, or maybe it was bad before and the Seafoam was the straw that broke the camels back? I've run Seafoam through my TDIs and haven't had anything bad happen...yet... Maybe I've just been getting lucky with the snake oil... lol. If the egr is clogged, just pull it and clean it. Also, a good project for beginners.
