Adding USB ports

So show me your mods on adding USB ports, I need ideas. I'm trying to keep neat. Thanks

I already have the Apple Midi or whatever it's called port in that position. Maybe something aftermarket.

Did you look up the part number I posted? It replaces the MDI connector for a USB and aux one of the same size and position.

But what do you want to do with the USB connector. Just charge your phone? Connect to the head unit?

Sorry for not being more detailed about my needs, I don't want to get rid of the MDI block I just need more USB ports to run some electronics. Right now both my cig lighter plugs are used up. What I may do is hard wire in my radar detector and that will free up the one 12v accessory plug near the hand brake. I can put in a 2 or 3-way plug in that hole. Just trying to keep my mobile office clean. Thanks all.

That looks like more work requiring drilling and wiring.

Good point. I wasn't going to drill, I planned on using some 3M mount tape if I went that route.

I hear the fit is about 98%. It’s the vents for the rear seats.

The reason for the missing 2% is because outside of NAR all the Golfs have Electronic Parking Brake which has a different center console.
So the obvious thing to do is retrofit Electronic Parking Brake, then the rear vent USB fit will be 100%, I can give you some pointers .

That is true. But this time I'm helping someone that NEEDS to do this retrofit so that the rear USB ports will fit properly. I'm offering support for something they are ALREADY going to do... as I understand it

I was going to point out that the rationale behind going through all of the hassle involved in getting EPB just for the sake of getting a couple USB ports for the people in the rear seat (who will never be me) escapes me. But then I remind myself that I just spent a collective work week (lots of "learning" along the way) installing and troubleshooting a powered hatch, even though I'm rarely in need of it, so....no - that is perfectly sound reasoning.
It's a NEED and definitely needs to get DONE. (I'm sure @amsoiltek will be throwing mega-thanks our way once they're in the midst of this project. )
