Accident during transport: What should I do?

Hi All,
I recently bought a car from TX (2001.GLS.TDi.Lux.Monsoon.etc). I had the car deliver to SLC. The rig was hit by another truck (Ford). The side of the rig has visible damage. According to the driver, the accident destroy $80k Porche. My car was up front away from the point of impact (in the back). I am going to have the local dealership check the car. No visible damage on the driver. No visible damage on the truck. After 1/2 hour of close inspection on the new car, I notice only a minor scratch on the top (driver side). It looks like something (bug, rock) hit it. Underneath looks clean as well. I am worry about the hidden structural damage of the car. I am not sure what to do (I really want to keep the car). Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Vin

If there was any damage it would be visible in the form of wrinkled sheet metal or some other obvious visible damage.

These cars are extremely strong vehicles from a structural standpoint. Get the chip fixed and drive on home.

Get it fixed and if it was still in VWoAs hands, try to get 1000$ off.
I think I read it somewhere on www.Audiworld.com that Audi does 1000$ off if they have to repair a dent on a new car (either via replacing fender or spraying parts of the car)

Sounds like your car was basically undamaged. They need to properly fix that scratch, though. Don't let them get away with a poor quality fix. It is entirely possible to fix a paint scratch in such a way that the repair is nearly invisible. It's not done correctly until YOU are satisfied. Give 'em a chance, though. Minor scratches and dings during transport are not uncommon. They are usually taken care of acceptably.

Hi,

The way I understand this thread, the car was not in VW's custody. Vin had purchased the car and had a commercial shipper transport it. Is that correct, Vin? If so, these drivers are required to carry tremendous amounts of insurance to cover such things. It is his insurance company's responsibility to cover any damage, be it from stones, bird droppings, low overhangs, vandalism, or collisions.

I believe there are a couple of commercial truck drivers in here that may confirm my comments.

Good Luck,

Stealth: That's exactly right.

I bought the car in TX (3% over invoice). Either fly there and drive it home or have it deliver. After checking with the airline, they suggested to have it deliver ($470 one way ticket!). With hotel and food factored in, deliver was pretty good option (door to door = $650).

All the local VW dealerships are booked for the next two weeks! The earliest appointment is on the 31st. I will have to hold my breath until then.
