I inquired through the VW website regarding the timing for the 2006 Jetta TDI and got this email back. I thought those interested in the A5 TDI may want to know that VW doesn't know.

I can't believe that aren't release sooner than spring 2006, especially with VW oversales are down.

Here in Canada, A5's are supposed to be released in march/april with the 5 cylinder/slush box.

In september, the TDI is supposed to come out.

I got this info from the people at the auto show, so it might not be accurate (car sales people know nothing afterall...

).

I was at the dealership today. There is a big Jetta intro/training session for the dealers tomorrow in Boxford (MA). They said they will have cars to sell in four weeks...5 cylinder gazzer mit 6 speed Tip.

They'd better hope that between March and September they still have the A4 TDIs around to sell otherwise VW's Canadian sales will take a HUGE hit.

Are they still building the A4 Jettas? AIRC they haven't started selling them in europe yet.

The Jettas are coming out this spring. The new Golf isn't coming out (in the US) until spring of '06.

I saw one on the road the other day. Pulling out of the local Pizza Hut, there was one heading towards me in the oncoming lane. At first, I was like "what kind of car is that?". When it got close enough to se the big shiny VW emblem in the front, I knew it was the MKV Jetta. I looked at it as it passed and the rear end doesn't look as bad in person as it does in the pictures. If I didn't have my wife & kids in the car with me, I would have pulled a U-turn and followed the guy. It had a dealer plate on it, so it was not a general public car. But there is one driving around Ajax. So they must be ready for release soon?

I was at the dealer today sorting out our messed up front suspension on the Jetta (see thread in the A4 section). Sales dude that sold us both our JW and Passat said "fall" for the TDI. No station wagons. For the Passat: it will come "later". TDI: "much later" with a smirk that belied that to possibly mean "never". Also no station wagon. Seems to me that VW is giving up some big market chunks with their strategy. This is supposed to help their sales in which way???

Anyway if anybody wants a Jetta TDI wagon, get them soon, they're going fast. Dealer said he had 10 in the pipeline between now and the summer and after that they're all done, you'll have to buy used. Passat TDI supply seems better right now, he had several in the yard, wagons and sedans.

Sales dude that sold us both our JW and Passat said "fall" for the TDI.

So....they'll be selling the current '05 Jetta TDI at the same time as the new '06 Jetta gasser during the spring and summer? This doesn't make marketing sense to me.

They will sell the current version "while supplies last". If you want a Jetta wagon, act soon because they're likely to run out of stock before the A5 TDIs come out. And the A5 TDI wagon is at best a "maybe" and "for later". VW is fickle that way.

They did the same when the A4s came out. First batches were 2.0 automatics so they sold the A3 and A3 TDI alongside. One was the Jetta. The other was the "New Jetta" (or 99.5). When I got my 99.5 (February 99) there were still A3 TDIs available at the dealership. In retrospect an A3 would probably have been a better buy with all the problems the early A4s had.

If you don't need the latest and greatest, get an A4 TDI and wait a few years for VW to work the bugs out of the A5s.

What I need to know is where along the pipiline are the A4 golfs? If the Golf V can be expected a year from now, how much longer (if still) will the Golf TDI's be showing up.

Are the Golf IV TDIs already all on lots?

The Golf 4 will continue to be sold until that model is replaced (in North America) about a year from now. They're still being built in Brazil.

Sweet... so that sounds like I may still be able to find a Golf IV TDI for sale new, as late as next fall/winter. I hope I don't have to hold out that long, but I'll be keeping my eyes on dealer inventories.

It's not that I don't want a Golf V, but I don't want a young generation (I know it's been in service outside NA for months already... more mature is more comfortable for me).

Was at the dealer in Ft Worth, TX yesterday...He said they would have the 2.5L Jetta on the lot March 4...He also said that the A5 TDI Jetta is on the ground in Mexico but that they would be holding them back depending on the current supply of A4 TDI's still in the system. Expects them to move to the port (Houston for us) in April and release to dealers in May. He did say that as 2005 models, they MUST be delivered to dealers by July 1 at the latest.

BTW, we talked about the B6 Passat and he had much less solid dates but did talk of both the gasser and TDI as definitely available here.

This is good information to know. We have an 04 TDI wagon that we are thinking of selling. If I just wait a few months to sell until you can't buy them new, whether trading or selling privately we should do well.

One local dealer told me that he didn't expect to see the A5 TDI until next year. Either they want to sell out their existing TDI inventory or they haven't a clue thenselves... If they release the A5 TDI after July, they will have to call it an 2006 model, since the factory will already be producing the '06 models for fall delivery. This is the typical mid year BS that VW pulls during a model year change over. I bet they get more free press this way and this is their primary motivation, rather than introduce the car as part of the fall lineup... Who knows anymore..

I just went to VW.com and priced a A5 Jetta 1.9 PD-TDI 100hp with 5-speed manual tranny for $22K delivered base and $26.6K delivered with all options. My guess is that some A5 Jetta TDIs will be starting to arrive in a couple of months, since the official website allows you to price a TDI and ask for a quote.

The reason why the loaded TDI is $26.6K is partly because the options are almost all or nothing right now. Either you the basic car with 1 or 2 options or you get a fully loaded car. I think that as time goes on - we will be able to mix and match options a little better.

At least they have the 5-speed manual! That's a great thing!

They list the Curb Weight at 3,197 lbs. How much more is that than the outgoing model?

They also let me select dsg as an option. Fairly decent mileage for a bigger car (vs a4).

Good sign for the B6. If manual isn't an option, maybe dsg will be.

VW's Canadian website still says the new Jetta TDI engine is to be available in June 2005. Since the U.S. site is already letting you "build your own", you have to think that it will also be available by June, if not before. All the Jetta advertising around here lately has been about the current Jetta clearance and getting one "before they're gone".
