A few problems with my TDI

I’m still new to the TDI scene. I currently own a 2005 VW Passat B6 PD BKC TDI 1.9 (euro spec). It has 307K km on it. On my way back from Lake Konstanz, I the CEL came on and I got the message “Emissions Workshop.” After a through research, it appears to be an EGR issue. I removed the EGR and sure enough it was very dirty with carbon built up. I’ve also experienced some other issues over the past 3 years of ownership. Here are my questions from the experts in this group:

1) How effective is an EGR delete? Do you recommend it?
2) My radiator fan doesn’t turn on but the engine doesn’t overheat either. Can the intercooler be the reason for keeping my engine cool?
3) My AC hasn’t worked in a year. Not sure where to begin but online research indicates it could be the compressor Any thoughts?

An egr delete would depend in large part on how stringent your inspection process is in your country.
