Yes, I should have known better.
So, my AC quits putting out cold air while driving down the road last week. So I take it to a local dealer to get this and some other recall-type things off the list. The service writer calls me and says:
1. the reason the drivers door won't reliably open is a bad door latch mechanism. Estimate $200. I inform him that it stopped working after THEY replaced the window clips so it is not a bad mechanism but a faulty re-install of the door panel.
2. "There was a fire under the hood." A fuse was blown on the fuse block on top of the battery and the fuse block needs to be replaced because of burnt wires (another $200), so he says. I told him the reason that some of the wires looked burned was that when I installed the fog lights some years ago the power wire shorted under the battery box when I tightened it down. I had cleaned it up and replaced the wiring, but the burn marks have been there for a couple years so don't worry about it.
3."You only have 5% remaining on the rear brakes." 40kmiles. $400 to replace the rear pads
. I think my answer to this was, "bite me" or something similar.
So we're up to $800 and no AC yet...
4. Since I'm at 40k, he offered to change my spark plugs....
Frackin' morons...
