There are just too many to list....
Not all years have the same setup. The '98 may not have that same relay, but powers the DRLs directly off of the TFL terminal on the headlight switch.

What exactly are you trying to do?

Removing the relay means you lose the dash warning light for parking brake on ... unless you install a jumper wire.

Easier to fix this at the light switch.

I just pulled out the relay in mine, took the cover off the relay and put a piece of electrical tape in between the contacts for the DRLs. Put cover back on, put relay back in, DRLs off and parking brake light still works. Took all of about 5 minutes. Just my two cents.

Guys- thanks a ton-you guys are the best. I pulled the headlight switch just like suggested and taped the appropriate prong and it worked perfectly. The New Beetle site with the pictures was a big help. I bookmarked the site for future reference. Again-THANK YOU! chuck:D

My DRLs stopped working one day, just like that (I didn't do anything to them this time!).
Parking brake warning light works just like before.

It's this relay then? How could I know by inspection?

Do your headlights still come on when you turn the switch on? If not, your bulbs are likely burned out and need to be replaced.

It's possible it could be a problem with the relay. Most relays are fairly inexpensive, so I'd say swap it out and see if that solves the problem. If it doesn't, then you might have larger issues and need a shop to diagnose.

Also possible that something in the light switch might be affecting your DRLs since the power for them goes through the headlight switch.
