97 passat tdi complete coolant hose replacement sorce

So I was hoping to find a complete coolant hose kit for this 97 passat TDI...it runs really well and I was hoping to get it roadworthy with new hoses and a timing belt kit...where's everybody sourcing their new parts? especially the hose kit if they're available? I'm not sure how many hoses I have to replace but it looks to be a dozen or more? And all the hoses look to be original

I think a place in Michigan-Parts Place for VW's- has kits for the hoses-I think they have an online catalog,you can also request a paper one. I'm not sure if IDParts or any of the vendors here have "complete" kits or not.

When I replaced mine, I bought them all individually, but I have a frost-heater, so some of the OEM hoses were replaced by the frost-heater kit with modified ones, so a full hose kit wouldn't have worked for me. I got most of them from IDparts, but some I ordered from 1stVWparts.com (a dealer in Washington) because their on-line prices are so good. I had bad luck with aftermarket 3-way hoses, and finally got the last of my leaks resolved after replacing that one with an OEM hose assembly.

rumor i heard was he makes aircraft hoses for a living and loves VW's so he makes some on the side.

i went to the dealer for the upper and lower main rad hoses.

gee-bee sold them on bora-parts after he stopped doing the sales himself... Bora is now cascade german parts.

Im sure they still sell them but i didnt see them last time i looked for them, you may have to call to get them.

I went to the dealer for a replacement upper hose after I had trouble with the Meyle hose I got from AutohausAZ.

I don't believe a factory VW lower radiator hose is available anymore for 1Z/AHU. The AAZ and ABA lower hoses might still be available.

biggest reason to use them is that they don't swell up and melt apart from diesel fuel leaking on them like rubber hoses do... specifically for that 3way hose under the IP.

2nd biggest reason is because the lower rad hose is NLA but gee-bee makes a silicone one.

I tried a set of those in black, the lower radiator hose was a perfect fit but I didn't care for the way the 2 3-way hoses fit under the injection pump so I went with the pricey OEM hoses under there since they fit much better.

I did the lower ones with Gee-Bee hoses. They fit fine. I did them and the T-stat at the same time so it was a little bit easier to get that lower rear hose on at the same time. They look pretty nice in the red color.

Ended up with a slow drip coming off the plastic oil pan cover rear clip.
Picked up a new T-stat housing and o-ring. Tomorrow I will drop the PS pump and do the T-stat again and hopefully that will cure the slow drip.

Fortunately I did a leak check with pure distilled water and no G12.
Bought a gallon of G12 at the VW dealership. 3 flushes to get out all the green antifreeze.
1 flush with tap water and now 2 with distilled.

If the system had green coolant it in, you might what to flus with Fleetguard Restore. to insure all the crud is out of the system. Then follow with the distilled water flush.

I drive a B4 with 279k miles and know of five other cars with between 225 and 375k and none of them have ever changed a hose. Makes me kinda nervous. Do ya usually change these when they start to leak a little or do they fail catastrophically ?

If you're diligent about checking hoses, belts, etc, change them when they need to be changed.

I used to change everything when I got another car. Stopped that practice years ago...

The condition of the coolant would be my indicator. If it's getting gross and there's signs of black bits you probably have a hose failing internally. If it looks good and clean and the exterior of the hoses look good then I would feel pretty confident.

Picked up my new T-stat housing and adapter tube from the dealer.
My old hoses looked a little swelled and very old, since I just bought this wagon and plan on keeping it I figured might as well change all of them and expansion bottle.
Done 4 flushes now and tomorrow I'm going to do the stat. Green stuff is gone.

I don't like engine flush stuff, caused leaks in a car I did once.

I had no issue with the Gee-Bee hoses. The 2 lower ones went on fine. I used a silicone gel on the inside and on the plastic nipples. I think it helped them slide on.
Just got my car back from Leonard at Wild Rose (TDI master).
He pulled my injection pump and changed the o-rings, new harmonic balancer and timing belt.
He said he liked the Gee-Bee hoses when he checked them out.
When I did the hoses I did the T-stat and did the hoses at the same time.
With the power steering pump off you can see and access the lower hoses more easy.
I made the mistake of pointing the T-stat hose clamp pointing down. After I put it all back together I realized the PS pump was blocking the hose clamp screw so I pulled the PS pump off again and re-positioned the clamp at a upward angle and tightened it up from the engine compartment. Lol

I was hoping the GEE-BEE 3-way hoses worked since I have already bought them and VW wants over $100 for both of them. Also good that Leonard likes GEE-BEE too.
Thanks also for the heads up on the T-stat hose clamp being angled upward for clearance with the PS pump.
It looks like Wild Rose is now refurbishing old Crown Vic police cars. Did you see many of them at his new shop? I’ll have to swing by there since he is close to Fry’s and not far from me.

so I just contact you from the samba ad? I have a 97 passat tdi and just had the timing belt kit installed and need to get to those hoses, especially the bottom ones are bulging and yes it appears to have a small leak at the fuel pump, So these diesel fuel resistant hoses may be necessary? What hoses come with the kit? is it complete or am I going to have to search for others? I have no idea when these hoses have been replaced or if any of them are original so I don't want a catastrophe...

Both of the small triple outlet hoses are available aftermarket. The top one is the most vulnerable but you can source it pretty easily. IDparts, Eeuroparts, AutohausAZ and RockAuto all have it I think.
