I finally got 900.2 miles! I took a trip from palm coast fl to leesburg va. Filled up 15.97 gallons vented to the top. Drove all night long with speeds approx 63mph set to cruise. The last 50 miles were city driving.. No AC.. I am excited to get the 900 miles tank. Absolutely amazing on a non modified car. Really nervous the las 50 miles.. The low fuel indicator came on at 848.5 and I have been reading here what people usually get one the light comes on.. I felt 50 miles should still be safe.. Even then It was nerve wrecking.

I hope you never get caught like many others who allowed their fuel to run low only to find out that that next station was out of gas.

I have seen a number of drivers who like to run close to empty only to get caught when the station they were counting on was closed for one reason or another. I seem to run into a lot of stations that were not pumping fuel, but still selling roller food and snacks. on I-70 on the East Coast area.

My recommendation is to be mindful that you will not always be lucky.

I had a friend once who was a real air-head. More than once I had to deliver gas to her on the road somewhere because she never would be fuel before it was not yet reading empty.

Nice achievement, roman.

I am amazed by the numbers a TDI can manage under the right conditions. I realize my MkVI Jetta is at a disadvantage, but I'm looking forward to seeing how far I can push it. Even breaking it in, I'm close to 50 mpg.

Not sure how much fuel you can get in that model, but I'd guess it's just possible under ideal conditions. I know the fuel consumption computer is probably optimistic, but I had my Jetta over 60 mpg on the highway at 55 mpg, not using cruise control.

Thousand mile tank

Hey Roman:

Yes it is possible !

I've had more 1000 mile tanks than I can count.

My '03 has sprint nozzles, 205/70 Hydroedges, and .681 5th gears. I drive @ 60 mph (1800 RPM w/.681), and the 205/70's puts the speedo spot on.

When the light comes on you have 2 gallons left, and I carry a gallon of Bio JIC.

Best tank is 1158 miles. Still working on a 1200 mile tank.

Timing is key. I run with timing dead on in the middle.

I was actually thinking of doin the 5th gear swap.. I heard good and bad things about it.. Is it true that the 5th hear housing is weak and when you install a taller 5 th gear your at more risk of breaking the housing? Also where would you recommend to buy the kit?
