First 900+ mile tank.

901.1 Miles.
It took 17.946 gallons, but I'm not convinced that it filled completely. The next fillup will confirm.

Drove about 20 miles beyond "Range: 0 miles".

Not too bad, just doing the daily 75 mile round trip commute, no A/C windows rolled down.

While your response is anecdotal and entertaining, it lacks relevance to the first post and is without precedent.

Dude, have you seen what a failed HPFP can do to the entire fuel system, $4K in a millisecond

Don't listen to them, I applaud your feat of driving 20 miles past zero! You prob could have gone 20 extra more!

Most we've done on the 2012 was 800 or so. 650 was the most on the 'ol jetta

Lol really , the fuel system is cooled by fuel. The bottom of the tank has less fuel . Equals more heat

An impressive feat. I've found 800 miles a difficult milestone to surpass, but I also can't manage to keep it below 65 MPH for that many consecutive miles. ;)

Thanks all.

I drive slow in the slow lane, my commute has 3miles of warm-up city driving with a few stop lights, then a moderate speed increase to 55, highway at 65 (58-63 my speed), slow up hills fast down hills (if you could consider the elevation changes in Kansas and Missouri hills). Off the highway 1 mile and I'm at work. The route is ideal.

The CKRA responds well to high temperatures. This 90 plus temps help a lot. I just roll the windows down a bit, crank the fan, and leave off the A/C.

Most days no wind in the am, Then a strong wind from the south for my Northwestern commute. Also ideal.

It's still not easy, I've wimped out so many times.

97 B4 variant(retired at 330K), 2000 B5 1.8T passat retired, 2013 SE (buyback5/17) 2015 SEL, 2015 E-Golf SEL sold March 2019, 2018 Volt LT and a 2007 PRHT MX5 for fun
If I filled our old B4 Variant to the top including the 6 gal expansion tank by trickling the fuel in by holding down the vent button It would go well over 1100 miles on a tank,
I miss that wagon!

Its not anecdotal and seems rather relevant to me. As far as precedence, anyone with any mechanical knowledge understands that a low tolerance high pressure pump that using its own pumping medium for internal lubrication should not ever be run dry. Diesel mechanics 101.

so you're saying I shouldn't have installed my fuel AC system? I heard from a guy that if fuel isn't under 60F the HPFP blows up. That's why I always fill up in the morning while the ground temps are the lowest.

Well done .... drive more worry less. I regularly run it to 0 range but it's a stretch to get to say 812 miles or 1300 km. I top off nose up and the most I have ever put in that 70 litre tank has been say 68 but I'm sure the filler neck has say 3 or 4 litres in it. I don't remember but from memory (which can be a little shaky!) "zero range" has something like a 6.5 litre reserve so there is your cooling .... drive more worry less! YOU ARE MY HERO. Kramer would be proud!

Same experience as 740GLE! Our best tank before Mod was 47 MPG, but typically 43 MPG. We just did a long trip after the fix and got 45 mpg. So the Mod actually improved for us.

The OP got 50 MPG on his 900 mile tank!

Filled up the car today. 729 miles and 16.122 gallons and 50 miles DTE. So about 45 mpg. This suggests that I underfilled on the 900 mile fillup, and didn't actually get 50 mpg previously. Likely I was a gallon or so short of full fill. My fuel gauge didn't go to full after the previous fill also, which led me to believe my MPG on the 900 mile tank was optimistic.

My best was 1,055 when "Low Fuel" Light came on. Hartford to West Palm Beach. I probably had another 75-85 miles left but wasn't going to risk it.

DAMN... My highest tank was 700.6 which I did yesterday... Too bad I can't seem to drive slower than 75-80 MPH on my way to work.

On the Gen 2 cars, the manual will always be king of the tank wars with the lighter 17" rims to boot, gearing and losses (pumps) of the DSG will always have a 1/4% higher loss.

Oh and did you know the damage you caused to that HPFP by doing that? I'm amazed it didn't grande out of the engine bay thru the bonnet to the next county never to be seen again.

When I had the Passat, I had several 800+ tanks. All ranging from 16.302 - 17.010 gallons for refill. It seems to be quite the stretch to get a DSG car to the magical 900 mile mark. I only came close twice, theoretically, as I filled up early due to convenience.

734 mile tank - took 14.743 gallons - 49.8mpg
533 mile tank - took 10.665 gallons - 50.0mpg

Had I maintained those numbers for the full 17.x~ gallons, I would have hit the upper end of the 89x's.

Now I'm in the low low 20's, and loving every second of it :p

Fine, your S2000 trumps my NMS.
Until I factor in the two child car seats over the fuel tank.

Hah, I'm Jealous...
