Gents, can you please let me know if an 8v exhaust manifold exists with the exit port situated between cylinders 3 & 4? Everything I'm finding is situated between cylinders 2 & 3. Tape measure shows approximate center of turbo inlet.

Closest I can find is this guy:

Any thoughts?

sadly the selection of cast manifolds is pretty slim
engine code JX is close, but really expensive

Buy a brm turbo and plasma cut the exhaust housing off it's perfectly centered.

Wow. Even further past port 4. What engine did that guy come in?

I ended up buying the spa manifold. Will make an adapter for the gtb to mate up to the t3 flange.

Yeah, I'm wanting it NOT centered between 2&3.

Nice, how much was that mammajamma?
How far from the T3 flange to the right axle centerline?

Ah, it's outside my budget anyways.
Meant from the turbo flange to the axleshaft, since it's pointed down so you're limited in how low your turbo can hang down

I would have tried a vw t4/wanagon 150 bhp exhaust manifold with one runner cut off or even a passat b5 tdi with dark side gtb adapter plate...I have a gtb2260vk in my golf mk2 with asz engine and it's a better fit than with the tubular manifold... Looks like your manifold works nicely ! Well done sharing with us !

BHW manifold puts it right in the middle. Tried one of those. Puts it in the same position but instead of outlet pointing down, it points it back at the firewall. I really wanted to shy away from welding the cast manifold. Maybe I'm being too conservative but I just don't seem to have a good feeling about long term durability of the welded manifolds.

Progress so far with the manifold:

Firewall looks strange
Transmission looks strange

...you swapping a eurovan or something?

hah neat!
I really wish we got more of those sweet vans in cargo hauling format. The cutaway dryvan and cab and chassis flatbed variants of them that they've got all over in europe are very interesting. Only way to get one over here seems to be as a rialta, and those just got crazy expensive.

ETA: I'd often wondered if it was possible to use an o2j transmission case from a VR6 golf/jetta in those, as iirc they've got the same bolt pattern, just rotated so the engine is pointing a lot more forward

Without the tilt forward it isn't going to fit. If that worked many of EVs would have avoided the scrapyard and instead been manual swapped.

Eurovans are holding up their value incredibly well, especially for campers. A TDI and manual swap add even more value and desirability for a clean and well-cared-for example. You're only paying yourself with whatever you're investing into it.

Do you guys think it's necessary to radius the entry into my adapter? It is transitioning from a t3 to a gtb inlet....and when I say transition I mean it is just a hole in the plate. ;)
I haven't looked into entrance effects and associated pressure loss. Lord knows the gas is going to be screaming through this area, albeit with pretty low density.

hit it with the die grinder after it comes out of the mill
no reason to spend a bunch of machine time making it into a geometrically perfect radius other than to make it pretty and maybe keep the die grinder shavings outta the carpet in the house

it does indeed pose some restriction in that flow direction, if it were the other way around with the small port dumping into a cavernous T3 flange sized port then it wouldn't matter being sharp edged

I took a quick look at the bellhousing patterns and it really looks like the tilt forward is similar between the vr6 golf/jetta trans case and the 2.5l T4 trans case. The VR6 t4 case just looks ridiculous with the angle, almost like you could use one of those with a 4cyl engine to get a flat floor in something like a corvair van haha.

I realize you've already purchased a manifold, but just in case anyone else is looking for something similar here is one I found for my project, I believe it came from a 1Y engine:

in Europe this exact manifold is also fitted to the AEY, AGM, ASY, AQM and AGP engines.

There's also some even more compact versions which are fitted to 1.9D VW engines in Skoda felicias / pickups.

I repurchased a 2006 GX at the beginning of September; I took it to get safetied, and they did not pass it on account of what they perceived as a ticking sound they heard when the engine was cold. Please don’t ask me how they heard this sound, given the car was dropped off at safety with a warm engine. Took it to an indie mechanic who couldn’t detect a leak. Safety people said they would not pass the vehicle unless the gasket was changed. Long story short, I am now replacing the manifold. The mechanic bought aftermarket manifolds from AP Exhaust, and two of them did not fit. What should I do? Go OEM? Local Lexus wants 1400, whereas the Toyota manifold is 1100. I’m in Canada and have seen a couple of Lexus dealers in Cali and Fla. that, with shipping and duties, would be about 950. Has anyone had success with aftermarket manifolds? I can get my hands on Dorman manifolds for 750 or so. AP Exhaust is a no-go.

Any idea if one of these could be mounted upside down with a stock ALH intake? Looking to have a forward, top mounted turbo. My current manifold outlet is approximately centered on the #2 cylinder outlet, but having it farther forward wouldn't hurt. Precious little space for a downpipe in my engine bay.

I think it might. You'll have to grind the lower ears to clear the inlet manifold. Pretty sure the turbo flange is kicked out enough to clear the intake.

You should find out who voted for "safety inspections" to have the full violent threat of state enforcement, and unload a manure spreader full of turkey manure in their front lawn.

I also kinda wonder how many links were automatically removed from your post.
