Quality Diesel stations in Boston area ?

Coming along the MA Turnpike, you will find Mobil diesel at reasonable* prices.

There is another plaza (Mobil diesel, IIRC) that people exiting the Turnpike will come upon...it's about 1/2 miles south of the 'pike on Rt 128...big place with McD's, etc.

Coming from the MA Turnpike and headind south on Rt128/I95, you can hit the following locations:

Take the Rt1 (south) exit and travel for about 1 mile. You will find ROJO which offers the lowest prices on gas and diesel in the area. I think it's Sunoco...it changed ownership recently. They sell a ton of fuel.

You can exit Rt128 at the Rt138 exit and head north and will immediately come upon a Gulf which sells the "Autodiesel" product even though the pump is labelled "Dieselect". This is about 5 miles from the hotel.

Sprague is in Quincy but would be challenging for most to find. This station is located right at the tank farm.

Braintree is a "city" and I'm certain there is plenty of diesel around. In general, you will find diesel at many stations in the area...that is not a problem.

The boutique diesel dealer, Burke Oil in Chelsea, is somewhat difficult to get to.

There is a Mobil with diesel at the corner of Forbes Rd. and Route 37. The hotel is at 37 Forbes Rd. Fuel couldn't be much closer unless it were in the hotel's parking lot.
And we're working on that.

The station that dieseldorf is referring is a Shell. Features include (as noted) lowest prices around, separate island for diesel (one side has the "fat" nozzle for NASCAR speed fill ups
) and there is also a car wash. I've never used the car wash but I believe they offer some $$ off w/ a fill. Just make sure if you intend to go back up Rt. 1 (North) you exit on the side of the station to get the light. The front access only lets you go south.

Speaking of car washes is there one near the Hotel? As I am camping Im sure my car will be a mess come sunday for the Show & Shine
Would sure like to wash it before the Show.
Hand wash preferably. Maybe we can get a special deal with a local car wash for the fest

we'll provide information about the nearest local car washes. we'll specifically be on the lookout for hand wash places - non-touchless sites won't even be considered, don't worry!

Any chance that Burke Oil would give TDIer's a discount on their bio-diesel?

All the service areas along I-90 in MA have Exxon at reasonable prices usually, but it's cheaper in western MA than in Eastern. I'm not sure where the price boundary is, but the Lee, Blanford and Palmer stations are usually the same price.

On I-90 heading toward boston if you want to hit an Exxon Mobil station (highway rest stop) you will want to hit the first one you come across after Springfield. Its a few miles past springfield in Ludlow. After that station the prices jump up like 10 or 12 cents at the next rest stop.

if i'm driving i'd fill up in western mass at the first or second (third I think even) Exxon on the Mass pike.

I've already been through that corridor for 2 round trips this summer... that exxon fuel is cheaper than most I found and lots of turnover and seems to be pretty decent mileage and no real difference smoke wise...

with or without additive thats what i found....

There is a truck stop at exit 2 (Lee) Just off the MA Pike.

Usually cheaper than on the pike from my past experience. It has a car nozzle on the far end (away from the office/store/showers).

No toll to exit/re-enter at exit 2 if you are comming from the West, on the way home if you are headed West there will be a toll to get off (if you've been on since Boston) but you won't pay anything else to get back on and to the NY line.

The plaze off exit 2 is good, but the price is usually nothing special, since it's no longer Diesel Dan's. The state just finished a two year project to clean up the intersection that it's located at, but it still can be a pain to get in and out in a timely manner. They also don't post their prices anywhere, so you may drive by the Lee plaza on I90 thinking you'll get a better price, only to pull up to the pump and find out it's about the same or higher.

Another update....

As of 8/21/04, Traveling east, the first 3 (Lee, Blandford, Ludlow) rest areas have diesel for 1.919. The last 2 (Charleton, Natick) are 1.989. There are 2 additional westbound areas (Framingham and Westborough) but I wasn't able to check their prices. I suspect they are the higher price.

The truck stop/plaza just off Exit 2 is 1.979 cash 2.039 credit (I didn't think they were allowed to charge extra for credit anymore...)

There's a truck stop just of of B3 just before entering MA. I'll be driving by it this weekend, I'll try to get their price in relation to the MA prices.

They aren't charging more than the "standard" price for credit payment, they are charging less than "standard" price for cash. Semantics, but legal.

$1.909 At exit 2 station at the bottom of the toll exit (Texaco?)

Pd. $1.879 in Gt. Barrington today but that's a little off the beaten track from exit 2.

It doesn't seem like there are any bargains on diesel fuel. I noticed ROJO (Shell diesel) was at $1.87 yesterday and the new Mobil plaza on RT128 immd south of the Turnpike has diseel at $1.94. Thank goodness for fuel efficient cars!

CoolWht, there is a station/truck stop in Geneva, OH off I-90 that is reputed to have premium diesel. see thread:

http://forums.tdiclub.com/showflat.php?C...part=1&vc=1

It is a Kwik Fill at Exit 218. I am guessing that is on your route. I have filled there. I can't say the car ran any better on that fuel, but then I do not have the highly sensitive, finely calibrated butt sensor many denizens of this site apparently possess.

ROJO was at $1.849 yesterday...seems to be the cheapest diesel in the area convenient to 'Fest.
