I was in with my B4V, Mk4 and NMS. Finally made it in with my Mk7 GSW DSG and its baby tank this evening:

700.6 miles
11.436 gallons
61.26 mpg

703.7 on 17.521 Gal. Fill up. Not impressed but then again I was pushing 75-80 and I weigh 375#’s AC 80% 75/25 Hwy/City. Getting 40 MPGs I’m not happy about it, but then again I just can’t drive 55 and also with the heavy load in my car that’s another factor. I will try and stay in the slow lane on this tank and see what happens.

Update, 803 Miles and ran out of fuel pulling into the fuel station, pumped 17.7 and hand calc 45.36723163841808 just slowed down a bit other than that same conditions. Wouldn’t start so I called the dealer and dude told me, just crank her for about 20 seconds a few times and she should fire up, And she did about 10-12 seconds later

Cool to make it to the 800 mile club!! But try not to make it a habit. Fuel pumps are cooled and lubricated by the fuel in them, so running them dry or very low regularly will cause them to fail.

I think people worry way too much about this. Running low on fuel is fine, in my experience. Running out isn't so great.

Uh, guys? Per his info he has a 2004, which has an electric lift pump in the tank. Running them dry REPEATEDLY is not good for the pump. ALH on the other hand probably won't hurt a thing, just a royal pain to bleed it and get started again.

I've had a lift pump for 150k miles installed on my '01, and though I don't constantly run around on empty, I certainly squeeze the tank till the light comes on.

686 Miles with 1/4 tank left showing.. easily would have made 800.

I’ve always wanted to break the thousand mile record with my B4V, but have never taken the time to vent the massive 26 gallon tank.
The longest I’ve driven on one tank was 947 miles on 18.741 gallons - 50.5mpg. During my ownership of the B4V I’ve averaged 690 miles per tank.
Prior to that I had a B4S which once achieved 818 miles on 15.592 gallons - 52.5mpg. At the time the car had 307,000 miles. Even though the previous owner had clearly used the car pretty hard (cosmetically it was a wreck), the motor was in great shape and achieved consistent 50+mpg tanks.

I finally had a chance to time out a fuel-up that would give me almost exactly 700 miles. Assuming 17 gallon capacity, I only had 1.1 gallons left!
44.31mpg, hoping to do better, because most of this tank was a long trip with the wagon FULL of stuff (two people, filled flatbed style without read seat bottoms).

Tires at 38psi, fuel from Nevada. Added opti-lube summer mix but only 2oz. Dunno if California fuel will do as well....we'll see!

Can't get 700 mi in a 2015 Golf TDI. The tank only holds 12.5 gallons. On my recent trip to SW Michigan and back I got 629.2 mi on the way out and 630.8 mi on the way back. Added 12.225 gallons on ulsd for the trip out and 11.846 gallon on the return trip. That was good for 51.5 mpg and 53.2 mpg.

It can be done, but you have to drive the speed limit or close to it and use good mpg strategies like coasting in gear to stops, minimal braking, avoiding cruise control, taking advantage of the draft tow of vehicles in front, going a few psi over the recommended tire pressure, etc. I got 700 miles once in my GSW (see previous page) and that was enough for me. I just wanted to see if I could do it, and then I got back to my regular asshat driving style.

Would anyone believe me if I said I can do this at 75 mph average? Only TDI owners believe me

I have an 03 jetta with 334k miles. It goes round trip From Minnesota to Kansas City 2 times a month. I know my avg speed based on time and distance using GPS as the speedo is off. Actually I havent pushed to 700 on a tank because it puts me too close to running out on the highway. My mileage is 49 mpg round trip and 417 miles gets me slightly less than 1/2 tank. So am I a member of the 700 mile club? Theoretically I can make it.

This talk of miles per tank and a thread on TDI swap Tiguan had me thinking. Mine takes 15-16 gallons regularly (no venting or topping off). I wonder how many miles I could get per tank in that with a TDI? I already get close to 500 miles on a road trip with the TSI.

Wonder if the couple TDI Tiguan owners could chime in?

If the tank is the same, with 49mpg you could make it, I just made it with 42 in a wagon chassis. That's assuming your methods for measuring gallons are accurate and the pump reports accurately. I fill to the brim every time to reduce variables. I don't know what qualifies for the club though...I think most people actually make the mark! It's all theories until you're on the ragged edge of a dry fuel pump ;):D haha

My mother lived in Sun City West Arizona. I live in Colorado Springs Colorado. The distance is over 830 miles between the two areas. I always made it on one tank of fuel and had fuel to spare. One time, when my wife didn't come with me, I made it all the way without stopping. Before getting to mom's house I did go to a filling station to empty my pee jug in their restroom. Not my common practice, but just to see if I could do it.

I've hit 1300KM(803Mi) to a tank, I have no idea with that works out to in MPG, but that 100% highway driving, in a completely stock 2012 manual, TDI Jetta, Pre-emissions fix, while filling the tank right up to the filler tube... and shaking the car to get every little bubble out that I could.

My 2013 manual, TDI golf wagon, doesn't do quite as well... but I haven't been on any long highway trips with it yet.

Finally back in the 700 Mile club territory. 706 with 15.4 gallons
I am looking forward to my all highway trip, no stops and see what the mileage will be like. I would like to get back to at least one 800 miles tank.

One More 700 miles tank

I feel that I was cheating since I kept it below 67mph (corrected) on the highway. This yielded me an average of 50.2mpg and 707.82 miles with 14.1 gallons of fuel. I could have done better would I have not encountered traffic delays and 20% of my driving in city environments. Next up is an 800 miles tank.

I just got a 2003 ALH Jetta Wagon given to me by my best friend. It was my first week with it. It has abot 524K KM on the clock.

Just ran the first full tank (full to the brim to fuel light coming on), put in 58.73L (15.51 US gallons), and I got 1251 km (776.71 mi). I ran that tankful with a can of Seafoam in the fuel, and and equal amount (473 ml) of PowerService Diesel Kleen. I added another 473ml of the PS when I got to quarter tank. Wanted to get a good run with cleaner in it. I'd say average speed was between 100-110 km/h, with some runs at 120-130.

I used Shell V-Power Diesel. This fill up was Esso Diesel. Will report back on numbers when I have them.

2003 Jetta Stock with Kerma1 tune
I've seen 700 once, about 2 thirds hiway miles. The light had not come on but I expected it. I routinely fill up at 650-675 miles, a needle width above the orange. I'm sure I could see 700+ every time but I don't like pushing the needle. I average 45mpg with a ventectomy.
My 03 Jetta is stock with a Kerma1 tune, tires at 40psi with a complete tool box, 2 gal of water and a jug of oil in the trunk. Plus my clothes and food to work a week.
This is why i bought it a year n a half ago.

Last tank was 900.1 miles (my "oversized" 205/65-15 tires males my odometer record less miles than I actually travel-aprox 2.5% or in 40 miles it records 39, so I actually went about 922 miles) and filled to the rim with 16.288 gallons.
Works out to 55.28 or 56.60 mpg depending on which numbers you care to use.
Current tank is on track to do similar but not quite as good. Colder frosty mornings and a few more days of headwinds will probably drop it into the 825/850 mile tank range.
Been a long time since I've run a 900 mile tank. When you hit 550 at the halfway mark, you know you have a good chance at it.

I've been having great luck with my new (to me) 14 Jetta 6mt.
Aside from the 1st tank which was ~44mpg and unknown miles, I've been hitting the 700 mile club almost every tank with a standard fill up (no topping off).

Best tank so far was 904.xx miles on 14.5x gallons, for just a tad over 62mpg.
I was getting pretty nervous trying to plan a route to the station that would be both fuel efficient, and get past the 900 mile mark without running out of gas; while worrying about which stations were still open, haha.

Working an offshift doesn't have many benefits, but having mostly clear roads is a big one

Greetings all,

Had a 86 diesel Golf that, on a trip from Dallas to Pittsburgh, got 810 miles on the tank. This was before the concept of hypermiling was even conceived. Could have gone a bit further no doubt, but I didn't want to push my luck. The 2013 TDI I had was always good for 700 mile tanks. I just did my first refuel of this re-purchased 2015 Jetta and got 45 mpg around town. I'd be disappointed if I can't hit 700 on a highway trip.
