I made 722 miles using 15.531g this past weekend in my ALH but that isn't the story. The week before I drove to Philadelphia via 95 from GA. I noticed that my mileage was significantly better even considering that my target speed on the interstate was 10 mph faster than what I typically travel on the highway. The altitude change must play a bigger role than I originally thought on my Jetta even though I was also carrying an additional 200 pounds (wife and daughter and their luggage). My mileage was still up by 5-10%.

Took 13.010 gallons in the supposed 13.2 gallon tank. I knew it would happen eventually, just took all the planets to align for the entire tank ;)

I did 700 miles in my Scirocco.
About 25 miles were on 0 range as I couldn't find a gas station. (that was not fun).

Same fuel tank size as Golf Mk5.

getting monotonous :)

3 700+ in a row on my 14jsw/dsg... mfi said 10miles left and this was my best mpg @50.1

I really don't want to have to give this vehicle up!

10/6/2016: 767.00 miles. 15.701 gallons. 48.85 mpg. Price:gallon = 2.129. Daily/Highway = 50%/50%

After sorting out the catch can issue in the car so it is no longer spraying oil into the intake. A/C running 80% of the time down here in NC but it is now cooling off so A/C is not needed 100% of the time.

Third fill on my new to me Golf, hit 700 miles this time.

14.95 gallons, 46.5 MPG. Fixing the dragging brakes helped for the second half of this tank. Just got to fix the ABS fault.

738 miles today on the third fill in the new to me 02 Golf. Fuel light had been on for a while and I was getting nervous, but it only took a little over 15 gallons, so should have been about 1.5 to spare right?
So I got 48.1 mpg, pretty impressed with this car.

How do you guys do it!? Im running MK4 2005 Jetta TDI 5 spd auto (I know, AUTO), 139k miles.. 205 50 R17s.. Stage 2 malone tuning, EGR fell out one time, straight through muffler, AFE cold air intake.. I have yet to get over 44 mpg interstate with it, and that was running @ 63 mph cruise! Typical milage is 29 local runaround to normally 40 highway, sometimes a little over.. I have records for the last 3400 miles, and have averaged only 33 mpg! Any tips on wat i cud do to help improve this? The car is gr8, but im jealous of that 45 mpg average!

Swap in a 5 speed? You're doing pretty darn good for auto & PD!

I had thrown that idea around alot actually.. I still have alot of questions on doability of the project, ive heard horror stories of guys not being able to get cruise back etc, but obviously it has been done with success. Any tips on a easy and reliable swap?? Should i pick up a kit somewhere, or not necessarily? I have two different buddies that would like to do it for me, both quoted 2500$ to do the job, the one guy will do all the tuning and ECU work included with that. However im a little hesitant as none of them ever did a swap like this and i dont want the car messed up.. Im looking for answers!! Also, what milage gains could i expect from such a swap??

Can FINALLY post in here!! First tank after the ventectomy. 782.2 miles and filled it with 16.4 (I'd have to check my notes to make sure on what I filled it with), but it ended up at like 47.2 mpg. Man do I love this car!!

Mostly I see it recommended to use a donor vehicle, remember to pull the ecu and the gauge cluster.

I don't believe I'll ever be able to add the new GSW to this thread with its baby fuel tank. 13.2 gal advertised, 11.5 usable without fear. I'm about to do a road trip. I'm thinking 650 miles is about the best I can hope for.

I've squeezed 13 gallons in a couple times. Also have had two 700+ tanks in the golf. 54mpg is the number to shoot for to achieve 700 miles. I do wish the tank was bigger still, I can regularly approach 800 in my ALH Jetta

OK, I bought a 2014 Jetta Wagon earlier this year and drove it back red-eye from CA to MN. I was just past Salt Lake City with an empty tank, thinking, I'll stop at the next exit, maybe they have a better place to eat there. It was about 10:00 PM. Well, that was an extremely bad decision. The next 3-4 exits kept saying "No Services." I was to the point of no return - going back would have been more miles than what I hoped was the next fuel stop. I was fully expecting to have to flag down a trucker, get a ride, and thumb it back. Was not looking forward to that, it was COLD and I had only a light jacket. The last 10-15 miles I slowed down to 40 mph in the unlikely hope I'd make it. Well, I did make it, fuel gauge way past E, to an exit with diesel. I filled up and the pump read 15.3 gallons.

Got thinking about it and looked at the owners manual. It says, fuel capacity, INCLUDING a 1 gallon reserve, is 14.5 gallons. So how the heck I put in 15.3 gallons I don't know. Never so happy to pump fuel as that night! Never checked, but if that wasn't a 700 mile tank, then one is not possible in a 14 JSW!

I miss 1,400 in my B4V. :D.

Also, no way would I draw the tank down to 0.2 gallons of fuel left. That's just irresponsible IMHO.

Thanks - I can't claim all those miles, but it had a good previous owner that took care of it.

Not in the South West.

There are spots in the southwest where fuel stations are over 100 miles apart and temperatures are in the 110° range. IMO it would not be safe to push for the 700 mile goal. I just got back from a trip from southeast of Phoenix AZ to Reno NV and back. I last fillup was for 539.3 miles and only added 11.977 gallons of fuel= 45.028 mpg. Figuring an 18 gallon tank gives me at whooping 810.5 miles. Average speed was 68 by cruise control, majority was 4 lane highway with some 2 lane rural roads.
