I drove by there this week and saw he has on a vacant lot near the dealership about 60 2016 Beetles, Jettas, and Passats, various models for each. ALL TDI's.

Called them, salesman said to come in a drive one and look it over. No prices on them yet, original Manufacturers windows stickers are gone.

Anyone else seen anyone grabbing a lot of these cars? Just thought I'd post for all to see.

Interesting development. I'll have to check this out as I'm only 20 miles away.

Then someone put TDI badges on the back of every one of those cars. They may be 2015 may be 2016, but they are TDI's. Many have a label on inside of the window that says DIESEL. Seeing is believing.

I was there you weren't. Go check it out

Saw them yesterday, at least 60 TDI vehicles and adding more. The man parking them said they were not for sale and had to be repaired. Referred to them as "no good polluters" and that VW as "cheaters that didn't follow the rules." I just bit my tongue and left as I don't share his sentiment.

Cars.com had a number of listings for 2017 (& 2016) SW and Golf tdi's at a couple of NY dealerships within 30 miles of me (as the crow flies).
Can't be bothered to check them out to see if they really have them -- if so, they surely cannot sell them yet, but it made me wonder what was going on.

they will try to get you to go in, but they cannot sell these cars
They don't need to sell you a car today. They just need to plant that seed of doubt into a TDI junkies head. Holdout for a fix vs. Buyback prior to fix and going elsewhere for a vehicle. If they treat that back lot like the vehicular equivalent of a petting zoo...they'll have deposits on all of those cars in no time.

"Come on back here Jimmy...check out this nice new TDI. Would you like to take it for a spin? Sure...we can put dealer tags on it and take it around the block. You liked that, did you? Why don't you wait just a little longer? We're working on getting approval real soon."

Nonsense. I'll say it again. They may have been 2015 TDIs but they most definitely were not 2016 TDIs because no 2016 TDIs were ever approved for sale in the United States.

My local dealer has 40 new diesels stored on the lot, not for sale yet and will not talk at all. Well the Cruze will be available in Jan so if these dealers keep #$!@ around I'm gone to GM.

When will the misinformation end? I have also seen a lot full of 2016 TDIs in Rhode Island. I can tell the difference between a 5 and a 6. I have no idea what they were doing there, I have no idea if they'll ever be approved for sale. A local dealer suggested they were being held there without passing through customs because it was near the port and VW might have worked something out with that dealer to store them until they either get fixed or shipped out. Who knows? But as knowledgeable as the tdi club community is, they sometimes get things wrong. There are some 2016 TDIs on US soil, but none have been sold to the public. If it helps, I can share the email from a TN dealer that says explicitly that they have 2016 TDIs.

Who said they were for sale? Actually, everyone here has said they weren't/aren't for sale. We have two posters that have confirmed the same lot and a third that has seen them on a different lot.

I was in osseo yesterday on my way home, and filled up with diesel there. So I went to check out these cars again as I had some time to do so.

I wrote down a couple of VIN #'s on these TDI's. If you look up the VIN identifier decoder, any VW made in year 2015 is assiigned the Letter F for year 2015 the Letter G for year 2016. There may be some 2015's but all I saw are 2016's based on the VIN on dash. I only looked at the front row. Not for sale, for sure, but they are sitting there.
In my opinion, most likely they are unsold 2015's possibly and unsold 2016's. I'd have to look at every car to see, but didn't feel like spending that much time.
VW has obviously something in the works, but who knows.
Just to clear this mattter up.

You can ship a non-certified car to the US all day long. They simply can't leave impoundment of some sort and be sold until certification or some clearance occurs. So yes, there could be 2016 TDIs here on the ground. VW probably built and shipped them with a application of certification on file pending approval. Obviously, the 16s weren't approved so they can not be sold. Manufacturers ship cars at risk with the expectation that certification will be approved all the time because it is usually is.

Don't confuse certification with not being cleared to ship. US Customs may even clear cars with a pending application as long as the manufacturer agrees not to sell it until it is approved.
