Ok folks, it's been over a year in coming, but the time has finally arrived. I now have brand new DRW code 6-speed transmissions. We want to focus on the new ones, but I might have a lead on some used ones too. In the past many members have paid $3k for a wrecked transmission out of Europe. I am supplying brand new ones for a lot less than that. The difference in cost between what I can get the new and used ones for is small enough that I would rather just deal with the new ones. Bear in mind I am paying all customs and brokerage fees too...

I have also put together a complete installation kit by taking part numbers found from other threads. There are a ton of items that are needed. I have included the part names and made a total price.

Here is what we're looking at, I will be covering all customs, brokerage and overseas shipping fees, as well as subsidizing some of the shipping to your door. I charge $200 to ship a 6-speed in the US, $289 to Canada (my total shipping costs are averaging twice this, so I'm splitting shipping costs with you). These must be shipped to a business address, doesn't matter where. Due to the weight FedEx won't deliver to a residence without imposing a $70 fee. If I get 2 or more orders to a particular location I'll take $100 off the shipping charge per transmission. Clutches and the like to go with the transmission will be offered at wholesale prices. Like I said, I’m trying to keep this as economical as possible. With the DRW the shift fork has issues when you shift to 1st-2nd. Often in high power applications it'll shear right off. The solution is an upgraded one. Problem is that to make one, fix it, and get it in costs me about $225. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU GET THE CLUTCH FORK, the hassle is not worth it if you have problems with this. While we're fixing the fork we can do a Peloquin install at the same time for free, which saves you time and money...

-Brand new OEM DRW Transmissions!!!
Rebuilt DRW transmission with upgraded shift fork --- $1995 (Lowered $500--group buy price started at $2495)
Factory New ERF Transmission with upgraded shift fork --- $2250
Peloquin installation without upgraded shift fork --- $195
Peloquin installation with upgraded shift fork --- Free ($400 value--see post #38 in this thread)

Options available only with transmission purchase:
-240mm dual mass flywheel and SACHS clutch kit with throwout and slave bearings--- $650
-240mm single mass Valeo flywheel clutch kit (not for those with lots of power mods!) --- $660
-DC clutch kits with flywheels --- Please contact for pricing information
-Peloquin LSD --- $895

Meanwhile, here's the install kit for those that want it. All prices and part are subject to availability. As you see it’s a lot of parts. If you want to go to a wrecking yard you might save a few bucks--and have a gigantic headache. Otherwise these are all new and OEM for an additional $1291. As seen in this thread, the parts for the install cost almost $3400 4-years ago (better pricing then) for a member to source himself. These are obviously offered wholesale as well.

Here's some info on the gear ratios:
First list is for the 1.9l 90hp TDI 5 Speed, the second for the PD TDI 6 speed. The last # is %gearing increase from the 5 speed.

These are overall gear ratios including final drive.
1st 12.8 12.7 101%
2nd 7.2 7.0 103%
3rd 4.6 4.47 103%
4th 3.29 3.23 102%
5th 2.58 2.38 109%
6th N.A. 2.10 123% (from 5th)
And here's something else to look at:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Next up, 01M Automatic transmission to 5-speed and 6-speed conversions:

For those that want a complete kit this includes everything except

wiring harness stuff: all pigtails (3) Two to clutch pedal switches, One to reverse switch as well as clips and brackets. These are ambiguous on the thread, therefore the first auto tranny swap individual that orders either of these kits and documents what little misc stuff needs to be added and gets the list back to me will receive a $100 credit back on their kit. This is all the *big stuff here:

*NOTE: I'm always on the lookout for better deals, as they come up prices can change accordingly. Also, as the EURO is at a 6-year low against the dollar prices can go up as well. Rest assured I'll do my best to keep them as low as I can. Install kits are ONLY available with transmission purchases at this price, otherwise add 15% for just an install kit...

01M Automatic --> 5SP Manual (use shipping quotes for 6-speed kits:

-Rebuilt 5-speed manual transmission (Peloquin, 3.16 R&P or 5th gear install available for free with this option) --- Call for pricing (need auto or manual core return)
-New OEM Factory 5-speed TDI manual transmission --- $1995 (no core) - Back in stock October 2011

Options:
-3.16 OEM R&P upgrade --- $549
-Upgraded 5th gear set --- $295 (I get your old gear)
-Peloquin LSD --- $799

*Install kit:
NOTE: I am currently paying $190 for the power steering line (1J0-422-893-C) I'm looking for a better source. As your old one can be made to work I am not including it in the install kit, unless you ask for it. Cost as of August 2009 is $190.

The install kit comes with the following:

You may upgrade the clutch, but this kit comes with SACHS 228mm VR6 clutch kit with SACHS 14 lb. flywheel (or Valeo VR6 kit), rear main seal, and transmission stretch bolts

if you already need a new trans yes it is. Keep in mine the 5 speed swap stuff goes for 1200-1500 to offset costs.

Bump for a good deal & good vendor.

Aaron; Have you priced the option of an LSD if someone wants one added prior to install?

Actually I have worked out options--although I've decided not to post them. Rest assured those buying the conversions will get special deals on everything including LSDs.

Krout - Right now I have my first shipment of 4 DRWs; there are...well...a lot more that are available. If someone wants to special order another tranny code I'm cool with that.

This is a killer deal. Brand new 6 speed.... You wont be worrying that you just bought a $2000 paper weight.

$2495 is a pretty good deal for a brand new trans :)

And yes, the 6 speed is nicer in so many respects that I think it's worth it. :D

Not sure if you sell kits to convert an auto to a 5 speed, but could you put together a kit with this trans to convert from an 01M?

Ok, I'll get going on it! (Actually my first sale on this was for an Auto--so I should say that we're working on it ;)).

6 spd's rule!! Free bump for a good deal and a good Vendor. Some advice for would be buyers - Don't skimp and just toss in the LSD diff. Makes the 6spd pretty much bullet proof for our applications.

My 2002, with second 01M, is starting to show the signs it did the first time it went kaploooooie, it had 59,965miles on it, glad the dealership wasnt 36 more miles away... but if its going to be the tranny to take me to 200k, id prefer it to be a 6 speed, 2k rpm, 70mph sounds like fun...

Sorry, I've had a car wreck, uncle die, and finals in the interim--finals finish up on Thursday, I'll try to get it sometime soon thereafter.

Anyway, not trying to make excuses, but there is a good explanation! Thanks and sorry for the delay!

sorry to hear about your uncle Bleached.
Hope the finals went well...my girlfriend is a professor, so I hear the other side. "I know this is against your policy, but my flip flop blew out and I couldn't get my paper in, can I get half credit?"

Aaron,

Do you have a clutch that can handle 300 whp and 400 wft lbs for this? I might be interested in it for the mk2 after my tranny blows.. :) whats the max power this thing will take? Are the gears better made?

any of the non o2m six speeds from the mk5 available? they are more of a direct swap into mk3/B4 cars than the 02m. I forget the codes but there was an article on swapping them into a mk2 in PVW awhile back.

I can see what I can find from the MK5....

Meanwhile, could everyone who is interested in the 01M->5sp kits either give me a call or fire me an email?
Thanks!

I found the PVW, (it was march 07, issue 125) the tranny is an o2S, with codes FYG, GQL and GLB, i'll take 2 if you can find them.

Yes I am--most of the kit is together, but it's hard getting all the details together when I'm working with literally 9 different vendors on these kits, four of which are in Europe... Took me a year to get the 6-speed kit together, looks like I might have the 5-speed kit together in record time :).

PS PM sent! ;)

The 6speed transmission is soo much stronger, axles are bigger, everything is bigger. Axles bolts are 8mm instead of 6mm on a 5 speed, and the gears are much bigger also.

I rev at about 1700rpm at 100km/h (62mph). The price is good and if people think it is expensive, they can look themselves to import it and they will find how expensive it is!

I now have a 5speed conversion kit for sale and would never go back to 5speed :)
