45 cetane in central Virginia

I just filled up at the Country Store Shell in Manakin Sabot this morning. As stated cetane was 45(nice clean shiny pump w/ sticker). It was 3.33. Just to check it out I drove into the Exxon just yards down the street. Pump on one side says 47 on the other it says 40. Pump was very old looking and outdated... no pay at the pump options. I try to avoid them since I usually have two small kids with me. I hate having to go in before and after pumping fuel.
We are heading south to Columbia SC this afternoon. I'll see if the higher cetane levels make a difference in fuel mileage. I also have to get the glow plug recall done soon to possibly help with mileage.

That Exxon 47 sticker is the newer one and you can actually see in the pic it's been placed over a "40" on that side so I'm sure that's what they're currently supplying. Its not a very fancy place but the people who work there are friendly and the diesel is great!

Shell nitrogen-enriched diesel fuel

I called Shell about nitro diesel and they ask for my zip code here in jawja and I have 3 Shell stations very close to me. Yesterday I bought 8 gallons and to me it is good. I fell like it has added a lot of power to my 05 passat wagon and it seems to last longer .I cant wait to giive her a full tank so I can see the mpg.

Crazy fuel prices lately! Luckily, Country Store Shell was ~3.54 the other night for 45, which is noticeably cheaper than any of the 40 here in town.

Any one know what cetane most Shell stations are supplying? I usually fill up on Monday's b/c they run 10 cents off per gallon. The station closest to my house ends up being the cheapest around and they have the diesel w/ nitrogen signs posted up. I pass the Exxon off rt 199 everyday, if that's better I may try that out.

Found out today that my TDI likes the 45 cetane at Southern States: http://www.southernstates.com/articles/hf/dieselfuel.aspx

Passed two stations between Danville and Richmond, and filled up at one. I'm sure there are more around, see their website...

Happy to note that price has come down $0.07/gal since last week, paid $3.929 tonight. 45 cetane now also $0.07/gal less than 93 octane PUG at the same station in Goochland.

Don't know if it's listed in the thread, but Southern States on Harris in Charlottesville has 45 cetane. It was $3.89 on 6/16

Good call, thanks. Every Southern States that sells fuel has their 45 cetane "SuperGold" as far as I know. I've tried the ones in South Boston and Amelia Courthouse, both were fine.

Two weeks ago, completed a road trip from Richmond that included stops in Pittsburgh, Cleveland & Columbus. Refueled once, at a Sunoco station in Mt. Gilead, OH (just off I-71), that offered several bio-diesel options. Would love to see this range of bio-D choices offered in Central VA.

I fueled with B2, got >45mpg on the tank.

I don't think anyone really knows, although my TDI always seems to run well on any Shell fuel I put in it - whether that's from the station with the 45 cetane sticker on the pump or not.

Most Shell stations I see in Central VA have 40 cetane stickers. I refuel in Goochland at the Country Store Shell, in addition to small amounts of biodiesel from Woodfin, because of the 45 cetane rating posted.

I recently had to wait in a line of diesel VWs there during evening rush hour on a weekday... late model Touareg, brand new JSW, and mine. The more the merrier in my opinion. Maybe this thread has helped their business as much as word of mouth. The more they sell, the fresher the fuel will be for all of us

Also, updated the original post to include the Wilco/HESS Travel Plaza in South Boston, VA. Favorite fill-up spot for tow rigs going to and from VIR. Has a Bojangles inside. On 58 about 20 miles east of Danville or a couple miles west of the main intersection (the one with the Sheetz) in South Boston.

45 cetane stickers on the pumps. Car pump is the one on the outside of the far right island when looking at the building - nearest to the truck fueling pumps. Filled my TDI with the stuff the other week, it seems just fine.

Gonna check this week, hopefully the HESS station here in Richmond at the corner of 360 & Laburnum may have this 45 cetane diesel as well.

If this is the one near Popeye's/RIR, a drive-through a few months back yielded views of 40 cetane stickers only. Unfortunately.
