As many of you know, I work for RCR during the day. The owner was recently approached by a customer/friend/financial backer to build 2 very unique cars that I, and my business, have been asked to be an integral part of.

The first will be a Superlite SL-C with a CBEA TDI and audi 01E trans built to set a record traveling cross country on one tank of fuel. We should be able to increase the fuel capacity to ~60 gallons without intruding on passenger space.

The second car will be our replica of the 2001-2002 Cadillac LMP car. I'm in the middle of building the first prototype chassis right now. This one will get the 4.2L Audi V8 tdi mated to a corvette T56 transaxle. Planned mods will be a full emissions delete and adding an atmosphere turbo to create a two stage system to bring output into the 600hp realm.

Updates will follow as projects progress.

As a teaser, here's a custom SL-C chassis to house a 5.5L Ferrari V12 that was finished today. There's obviously quite a bit more work, but this is the base of it all.

What are the plans for the the Cadillac replica? Race Track use? Endurance racing?
Racing of some sort as it won't be street legal. Endurance is where it would shine for sure :).

Cool job you have.
Looks like you live down the road (32 mile) from me here in St. Clair.
It's not too bad for a day job, there are much worse things out there haha. Stop on by the shop anytime you're down this way!

I have a fair amount of 4.2L TDI experience. What generation of engine are you going to run? If you are going to do any racing, even at stock power levels, I highly suggest replacing the exhaust valves with a set made of Inconel or Nimonic.

Glad to find someone who has touched one! The boss is currently trying to make a deal on a BVN engine. What is the problem with the exhaust valves?

Any other issues that need to be adressed? I've been told the car is probably going to be run in 24 hour endurance races a couple of times a year.

The valves and seats pound themselves to smithereens until you get a chordal failure and then it's game over. On a passenger vehicle they are alright. Run a lot of full load WOT and I'd rebuild the heads every 100 hours or so to keep it running at top performance. That's on a stock engine. Other than that it's pretty stout.

Whitbread what did you do to get a job there? I know you did a lot of fab work on your own and I'd like to get into the same thing. I can't weld tho :(

Ahhh, so put in inco valves and better seats. Very good to know.

Showed the owner a rolling resume so to say.

Are you hiring?
Only if you're a very good fabricator or cnc operator.
