My 2003 Jetta TDi Wagon hit 350,000 miles yesterday morning. Woohoo!!
I bought it used for $5K with 191K miles on it, put about another $5-7K into repairs and upgrades, so call it $12K initial investment. That's about $0.075 per mile. My fuel costs are about $0.062/mile, and I figure about the same for maintenance - oil, tires, timing belt, filters, etc.
So that adds up to 20 cents a mile, including depreciation. Not bad at all. Also, I fully expect it to go another 150K miles at least, which will cut my depreciation in half.
Lately, all my miles have been city driving, but I should still be getting better mileage. I think worn injectors may be the problem, and I plan to replace them this summer.
