Just got back from my 30 k service, and the only thing I asked them to do,was adjust the speedo.Guess what was not done.
As most of you experience, the speedo's are wildly optimistic, and I'm sure I read here somewhere it can be adjusted.
Anybody help.....I know it seems petty, but I want my speedo to be accurate.
When we had our 2.5, 2007 Rabbit,it was spot on.
On our 2.5,2008 Jetta,it is spot on,so why is my TDI way out ?
Anybody ????
Thanks

Ive read that you can adjust how the ecu reads the abs sensors which give the computer info on speed. I saw a way to do it on Ross techs page and some users have said they did it. Question, how does yours read.faster than actual or slower than actual?

How far is way out? Mines within 3-5 MPH. I think that is pretty good considering tire wear and all the other things that can have an effect on it.

My speedo reads too fast by 8 KPH when compared to an on dash GPS. The speedo doesnt agree with the MFD either. At 120 kph (speedo) the MFD says 117. My on dash gps says 112 kph.

My speedo if 10km/h too fast lol. I was wondering why at 120kmph there are soooo many ppl passing me. After I drove with my wife's Garmin gps I noticed my 120 is actually 110 hehe lol

it'll be a varying in MPH or KPH depending on your speed and tire wear, faster you go bigger difference.

i guesstimate mine is out 10%. reads faster than actual. my scangauge seems to be more accurate judging by how fast most other cars are driving. p.s. ive also read somewhere that automakers now tend to calibrate the speedo on the conservative side for legal purposes! i do not know how true that is.

Last Dec, the car was delivered new with snow tires mounted. The speedo was way out, about 8%.
I figured I'd wait until the summer tires went on,they were brand new,but they didn't,and shouldn't make any difference.
You know,it's not the end of the world, but it's really annoying, why can't it be accurate ?
My 08 Jetta, gasser ,is spot on with the same GPS unit I use in the 2011 TDI.
I'm sure there must be an electronic adjusment for this. Somebody in the GTA knows how to get this done....anybody ?

None currently. MK4/5/6 Jetta's in the past.
I've gone through every of the 8 distance impulse numbers through VCDS (Mine was set on 7 from the factory) and only changing it to "8" helped, but only by 1%.

1-6 made it worse, so it seems, at least on my car, that it can't be adjusted to be accurate through VCDS.

Of course, when you changed the impulse number, the odo is affected as well.

From what I've read on here, lots of the US cars are accurate, but none of the CDN cars are.

yep. Did the same using VCDS but didnt correct it 100%, The Golf was off by 10% now its around 5% maybe.

For the Jetta, its set on 8 as well, but when i changed the summer tires to 235/45/18's it was dead on! :) These are passat wheels and tires.

My digital speedo reads about 3 mph slower while my analog about 1-2 slower than my gps. However my odometer is for all intensive purposes spot on. I read somewhere that changing the impulses does not affect the odo. can anyone verify one way or another. Would I need to change my impulse number from 7 to 6 or to 8 to corect my problem?
