My coolant was low and while trying to trace if there is a leak, I noticed this valve hanging down and tube rubbing on the belt.

Anyone able to let me know what this is?

I also never saw a leak so if anyone know any common culprits let me know.

That appears to be the exhaust gas recirculation cooler change-over valve.....
Most prominent sources of coolant leaks are under the intake, the in vee.... typically the oil cooler and\or coolant bypass valve.

Thank you for the help, the belt rubbed into the hose some as you can see. If I were to undertake a project such as pulling the intake, is there anything else I should do while in there?

Thanks again, I've had several Audis but this is my first TDI and for some reason I just have this thought in my head that diesels are hard to work on.

modern diesels are pretty complex but so are a lot of gas engines these days. if you owned any turbo gas engines i cannot imagine its much different...hard on the wallet yes but not necessarily harder to work on...that said i havent owned a gas powered vehicle for over 15 years and my girlfriends scion rarely needs anything but general maintenance.

Reseal everything :)
Here is a comprehensive list of all the parts you need.
(Vac caps are not required if you are not deleting EGR cooler)
(temp sensor ORINGs are optional). Everything else isn't)

I have a leak in the valley and just ordered the parts. Now M thinking maybe I ought to do a delete while I am in there. I am mot ready to do a DPF delete but does it male sense to delete the EGR cooler now? I guess could do more research but being lazy I thought Id just ask here what my options are. Thamks
