Hello everyone we are from the great white north,

We purchased a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta wagon 2.0L gas with 5spd manual cloth interior , Indigo blue pearl. Almost rust free. 181k on shell. Blown 2slo I suspected the timing belt went. We have a 2002 golf tdi / 5spd sitting waiting to donate the ALH. I've researched and researched. No definite answer. Does it matter that we are going to pull out an engine harness from the 02 golf tdi ? Or do we need a 03 Jetta wagon tdi as a donor car for this swap. And what else is required to make this swap 100% succesful.
We live in a rust belt so it's very very hard to find a factory Alh 5spd wagon up here that isn't rotted out so that's the reason why we are going to swap an Alh into this beautiful blue Jetta wagon. Thanks in advance!

2002 --> 2003 should be a straight across swap. Bring the whole engine harness and ECU AND *instrument cluster* from the Golf to the Jetta wagon and it should fire up without a fuss.

There are just too many to list....
Yeah, if you have both cars, once you start looking you'll see what all is different. Shame about the ol' 2.slo, they are generally very good engines (they share many basic things with the ALH). It takes serious neglect to kill one. But it doesn't surprise me.

The fuel tank is different, too.

Thanks for replying, I suspected the timing belt snapped on the 2slo. So we think the top end is toast. And I agree the 2slo are good motors. We just want to diesel swap this unit.

Thank you for clarifying that up. We will keep you guys posted when we start the swap in a few weeks. Cheers
