Last weekend I was able to accomplish the timing belt job for the second time. Previously I did the change at 80k miles using the 100k parts. I was pleased to see that the timing belt itself was in great shape as were most of the rollers and the tensioner. The one suspicious part was the big roller. It spun without noise but also like there wasn't any lubricant left in the thing, and the bearing seal did seem to show evidence that it puked out all of the grease.
While I was in there I also did the water pump and the thermostat. I also did a detail on the engine bay which might be the one extra bit of work of which I am most proud. The engine looks great (by comparison to how it had looked), so great that I left the engine cover off so I could marvel at the clean bay. My only regret was not taking before and after photos. I knew it was filthy in there but underestimated just how good it would look once cleaned up.
I also threw some LED bulbs into the tailights; which of course caused a flashing glow plug light and hyper-flash. I've ordered the parts needed to correct this issue and will do so in the near future.
