My TDI is due for it's second service so I called the dealer and was told it'll cost CAD$305.00 + taxes.
It involves oil change + tire rotation + oil, fuel and polen filters.

Is this the normal charge?

I got that quote from Pickering VW.
When I called VW Whitby I was quoted only $145.00! But it was only for the oil change. She did not say that the fuel + polen filters need to be replaced.
But Pickering VW said they need to be replaced as per the manual.
I guess down here in Durham VW charges a premium for their services!

Thanks for the info.

Filters should be changed once a year. This doesnt include the oil filter.

I'm at 48k already, but i usually change the oil at 10k and change at prejad's place. I changed the pollen and air filter at 30k, but it looked very good still so next time around i will change the 2 filters every year and not 30kms.

you could do it yourself for under 100 bucks and an hour of your time, i just do not fully trust dealership to do it right anyways:)

So do you recommend that I skip these filters and just do the oil change + oil filter?

My 335D's fuel filter was only required to be changed at the third oil change which is around 50,000KM.

Unfortunately I'm not mechanically inclined and am worried I might screw things up!

Just do the light test on the filter to see if its required or not, i cant tell you if its needed or not without looking at the filter.

Don't open the filter housing without changing the filter. It's not great practice to open these things just for the purpose of checking. As per VW specifications, the fuel filter is due for replacement at 30,000km (20,000 miles in the US).

i was talking about the air filter and pollen filter, not fuel filter. you are right about the fuel one. I did change it at 30K, you also need VCDS to replace the fuel filter. i would still do the fuel one every 30K,

This would be the 20,000 mile service in the U.S.? This involves oil and filter, tire rotation, fuel filter change. Not much more.

I changed my air filter and cabin air filter at my 40,000 service but the cabin filter was way premature. I'll extend it out to 60,000 the next time. The engine air filter specifies a 60,000 mile interval but mine was full of junk so I changed it at 40,000.

I wouldn't pay $305 dollars,,Canadian or otherwise, for the 30,000 KM service. Just too much for the services rendered. Do your oil, oil filter, and fuel filter and rotate the tires or install your winter tires and be done with it.

I was under the impression all scheduled maintenance for 3 years or 36,000 miles was covered, I know some things are not covered, normal wear and tear, but I figured filters would be covered. does anyone have a list of exactly whats covered with "free" maintenance. Thanks.

its the charge...deal with it....its once every 30K....I think its in line actually....dont skip the fuel filter unless you have done NO reading on the site. mine goes to dealer till out of warranty...then I can do my own small things...good luck fighting vw canada on a big claim if you did the work in your driveway....not worth your wasted time...

I would do Oil/filter change + Fuel filter @ the dealer

The air filter & Pollen filter you can do yourself at home & if you plan on putting on winter tires there is not need to rotate them since they will be off soon enough for the snow.

Frick, dealer here is a rip off. Got quoted $400 for it, and got them down to $300.
I had mine changed yesterday and paid $303+HST!
This means that every other oil change will cost $303!

I wonder what the 60,000KM service will cost? It looks like a humongous list and I'm sure will be expensive!

if you have DSG 60k will cost lot of money, if not then i dont think there is any other cost for manual tranny.

Mine's a DSG! Fortunately it's bought under the company so it's a tax deductible expense.

45K service thankfully is just another reg. oil change, but yea 60K is going to hurt.
Hmmm... with all these added regular maintenance costs I'm beginning to wonder where is the saving in going TDI?

Besides now with Winterized Diesel costing more than RUG!:(

But Diesels are so much fun to drive than Gassers!:D

I havn't gone in for the 2nd maintenanceyet but i believe the service manager told me it was $250. What gets me is they charge for oil, filter, rotation..blablabla and they only do half the work. My tires are directional, thankfully they didn't rotate them though. Then i noticed this weekend (while trying to locate the horn) that a few screws which hold the plastic shield under the engine are missing and the ones that are left are loose. Once mine is off warranty i'll take care of my own maintenance, it's cheaper and will save me the trouble of ordering replacement screws!!

Any Suggestions for 30K service

My car goes in Monday for the 30k service.I have asked for the oil change, oil and fuel filter, check the air filter, and leave the pollen filter, and
Don't rotate the tires as the snows will be on soon.

I was going to ask them to take their electronic gizmo, you guys talk about, and have them adjust my speedo,so that it reads correctly.I understand with this machine they can do that, and many other wonderful things.

On my 08 I can close all the windows by holding the lock postion on the key fob, that is another thing....any other suggestion ??

Thanks

My car is almost hitting 32,000 km (20,000 miles) on the odometer.

I just quoted Brandon at DCB (via text message) for the 32k service and he says $360 + tax...
