What size is best suited for the Golf TDI? I just ordered a set of 19" wheels and for some reason tirerack shows 225/35/19 for the TDI but 235/35/19 for the GTI. I had that same set up on my 17 GTI sport and just assumed it would be the same for the TDI. Anyone know why a 225 is recommended over the GTI's 235? Thanks

Both of those sizes will fit both cars as the wheels wells are the same.
More important is how wide your wheels are, and what kind of look do you want.

The new wheels are 19 x 8.5 with a 45 offset. My 17 GTI had 19 X 8.5 with a 48 offset with no rubbing issues. The only thing different I know of from the two cars would be the rear beam.

from what I’ve seen,
225 looks flush with edge of wheels 7.5” wide,
235 looks flush with edge of wheels 8.0” wide

That said, I wouldn’t run 225/35 on a wheel that’s 8.5” wide unless you want that stretched look. I would even wander to test fit 245/35 on those.

But you can go here and play.....

anything under 27” diameter *should* fit in the wheel well with stock ride height

Thanks... I'm leaning towards 235's but just wanted to make sure its not going to rub on the TDI? I'm just confused by Tirerack site stating to run a 225 on the TDI but a 235 on the GTI. Must be some reason. Anyone running 235-35-19 on a TDI Golf?

I imagine Tirerack is just stating the factory tire size/width. Better for them to be conservative than get complaints about fitment.
