hi guys, i would apreciate some help here as im kinda lost. Basically i bought one of those 2060vklr turbo to go on my alh. the thing is that it just wont make boost. i knew those where suposed to be more hi rpm turbo but it just make less boost than my old 1752vrk at any given rpm.

logging and tunning trough it. basicaly the ecm is closing the vane to try to get requested boost. even over 3000 rpm the vane are almost fully closed between 20-40% to make a shy 25 psi of boost. i tought i was needing more fuel but gauge still read 16 :1 ish at full throttle. i even went 12:1 to try to fix the issue but it havent.

i did test for boost leak, everything is fine.

more to it is that at first, when i was flooring it under 3000 rpm the backpressure would go so hi that it would overcome the actuator and bounce/surge like hell... i had to limit requested and duty cycle here to prevent this.

has anyone else bought those turbo from powertdi ?

If you are commanding the vanes closed even up to 3k rpm....the backpressure will be very high. It may not be the turbo. Make sure there arent any other restrictions, even accidental ones.

yeah under 3000 rpm its closed or close to near 20 % duty then after 3000 it finaly settle to around 40% . its only making 25 psi tho. i just dont get what wrong here. can those turbo be too big for a 1.9 ? 2.5 inch exhaust be too small ?

I purchased the same turbo from PowerTDI configured for a longitudinal (B6) setup a few years ago. My tune is from Malone and while it's a little soft in the bottom end (as I requested to save my clutch) it has no problem spooling up to ~34 PSI above 2400 RPM.

I have a 3" downpipe that splits into dual 2.75", but I highly doubt your exhaust is the issue here.

It sounds like you already have an EMAP so in my opinion your best bet would be to log that and the IMAP and adjust your tune to balance the two. At higher RPMs your vanes cannot be fully closed, it chokes the engine too much to build any boost.

If you think there's an issue with the CHRA, then I would check that and message PowerTDI. They were pretty responsive whenever I had questions.

Nah sorry I don't have any logs and I don't have an EMAP sensor at all. I'm still running the stock PD130 injectors (engine is from Europe) so I don't have nearly enough fuel to make power from full boost at this point. But that hasn't affected the spool.

Have you checked to see if the actuator is working properly under vacuum? And if the screw stop is in the right place? I'm pretty sure PowerTDI set mine up fine, but maybe that's what's messing up your results.

Theres something wrong in your case, check stop screw hasn’t fallen off, the gtb2060vklt is a really nice turbo for the1.9 tdi engine and builds boost properly if tuned right. You obviously don’t have enough fuel to drive it or the turbo is set up wrong !

Maybe you’re expecting vrk like performance, you have to trade off some of the low range boost in favour of midrange-top end…

yeah the whole stop screw actuator is fine. its really just a mather of needing fully closed vane or almost to make over 15-20 psi under 3000rpm. before buying this turbo i read some comment of full boost near 2500 and over 30 psi bit this aint happenning.

for now im using a wideband to check fueling and running around 16 ish at those point. 216 injector.

could it be that everyone running those turbo are smoking coal to make boost ?

You don’t have fuel to spool that turbo if your injectors are 216 (0.216 ?) ! No wonder you can’t get the darn thing to spool up ! Get some 0.260, 0.300 nozzles in there and enrich the smoke map a little in the midrange !
Gtb2060vklr should be savage with 0.260 and larger nozzles and with a decent flowing exhaust ! What comes in must also go out !

Gtb2260vk makes 2.8 bar of boost at 3000rpms on good old pd130 with firad +80%, +100% or +120% so the turbo can flow enough for 300+ bhp ! And with minimal smoke too…

might be a leak in exhaust manifold gasket. the threads on my head were pretty trash. Didn't get it as tight as needed, but you couldn't hear or see any leaks. no boost until 3000rpm

yeah even with rich afr and light smoke it wont come alive that easy my guess is you need to be smoking coal to make boost with those. i have no leak anywhere everything was tested... i switched back to my 1752. 1.7 bar from 2200 to 4500 red line. now thats some real powerband
