Everytime one comes in, Theres a checklist of things and its always more than 50% of things on that list are needed. Its like clockwork. I'm surprised people still drive those considering how expensive they are to own it.

The worst part is, all the VAG products that use those engines... which now is easily half or more of them sold here, are otherwise pretty decent cars. Plus, the EA888 engines, when they are behaving and not broken, run really good. Even slinging a big sled like an Audi A6 around, quattro, slushbox, and all, they get with the program. Gobs of power, gobs of torque, and when driven sanely, reasonably good (for a gasser) fuel economy.
That's one thing Volkswagen HAS figured out: how to make lots of real world power with not a lot of engine. The EA211s have terrific power as well. A 1.4L NCS Jetta with a 6sp slushbox would handily kick the crap out of a lot of other cars (including our new Mini, which isn't even a whole car!).
But none of that matters if they are broken.

They have changed some things, but not necessarily fixed things. And in some cases, introduced yet another potential problem that wasn't present before. Things like a plastic oil pan.

(the aftermarket has already scooped in and addressed that one).I know alot of people have switched to the 2.0T Atlas oil pans which isnt plastic as a "OEM" swap. I know that the 2.0T 2018+ Tiguans have issues with the PCV failing and either blowing out the timing chain cover gasket, oil pan slightly cracking and throwing a EVAP fault due to the sensor throwing way out of spec because of the excessive pressure.

Monday June 10 at 8 am I dropped it off, but they were short handed and didn't get to diagnose it until Tuesday.
Just called to see if it was ready by EOD today... nope.

This car is finally fixed! I will report back here once I drive it a bit.
Edit: after some 100 miles of testing, I think this car is now fixed good. No regen yet, but that should be good too.
Edit again: 300 miles and I didn't detect the regen, but it probably happened in the highway. Running pretty good, although something is still loose in the front end, I'll look at replacing the left side tie rod end, inners seemed fine.

Yup, the left side tie rod end finally fixed a sloppy front end...well, that and the other tie rod end, ball joints, LCA rear bushings, and torsion bar links.
A new DPF is such a beautiful thing! Opened the elbow that feeds the intercooler, expecting to clean some sludge (since every time I have opened there I do find gray/black/green sludge), but this time around was almost pure water, not a lot, maybe a tablespoon.
Before finally getting the new DPF from warranty, I though maybe the turbo was a goner, but now I know the turbo is well. This car has a new lease on life for quite some time. As the end of the warranty approaches, or this new DPF dies again, I'll be getting a non-delete tune for it, perhaps @burpod is ready by then lol.

Just checking in here out of morbid curiosity.
Glad to hear wife's old car is still running good. You've definitely shown some perseverance in dealing with the emissions crap, getting recall done and getting dealer to honor the emissions warranty.
I'll buy you a coffee next time we're in MI.

Personally, If everything was covered for free and I was given some sort of rental, I wouldnt mind the wait. Although the back and forth would be annoying but at the end of the day, look at the cost of everything thats getting replaced and look at what youre paying.

It was some level of back and forth with 2 dealers, but they both furnished loaners each time. Then returning the airbox to its original status took some time. Cleaning/drying the EGR filter a couple of times, putting just the right amount of miles to take it in.
Finally waiting for the CEL to come back 2 times, till they finally changed the DPF.
You are absolutely right on the cost of things, I had to sign paperwork for the dealer to get paid by VW: around $3500 the first time, then $2500 for the DPF replacement. Can't complain!

Guess what guys and gals...this car just popped the same DPF efficiency below threshold and EGR insufficient flow codes. Just booked an appointment with the dealer, but this should be some sort of record!
