I recently took my 2015 TDI in for 10K service. The mechanics told me they needed to update the EDU for emissions. Does anybody know the details of what this update is all about?

Technically a perfect solution. A TDI engine that doesn't run produces zero emissions.

Good luck avoiding the fix. I bet states will be told to not issue new inspection stickers without proof of it. I guess if that happens you can avoid roads entirely and still use your TDI legally in the woods.

I didn't see either of these effect. Slightly different regen cycles and a bit of a different cold start routine were the only changes I've noticed. I didn't get a 6 MPG reduction in mileage, that would have been very bad.

Reg Renew

Ca is going to require the update be done before you can renew your registration. Good thing mine are exempt!!!

I had this done on my 2015 Passat a couple of months ago. The Service Adviser gave me the technical bulletin and it looks like it came out on 5/15/15 and is for the 2015 Passat, Jetta, Beetle and Golf. It is designed to address the following:

"Deviation between the calculated and actual soot mass of the particulate matter trap causing DTC P2463 to set in the ECM fault memory. Incorrect data for the particulate matter trap regeneration time causing DTC P2458 to set in the ECM fault memory."

Seconding this! No loss in fuel economy but the first DPF regen I noticed had rpm's bounce up and down instead of holding steady at 1k.

He's right on someof the points, however this recall has more to do with the older engines that do not use urea. The newer ones are included but I suspect the part that the ECU disables is the regeneration of the DPF. This hasn't been confirmed by VW from what I've read so far. However that seems to make sense since the engine will inject a bit of fuel during the exhaust stroke putting unburned fuel into the exhaust to burn off the excess soot in the DPF.

so I knew someone somewhere who was able to get the TSB 2309 info.
Are these ^^^ Engines the EA288?
Yes they are. CRUA is Golf and Golf Sportwagen. CVCA is Jetta, Beetle, Passat, Audi A3.

Damn, I didn't think much of it but I got a red letter notificTjon thing from my local dealer in like may saying I needed to go back in for some kind of ECU software recall/upgrade.

Glad I never did.

So that's where my 60+ MPG went. Bought our 2015 Jetta on May 1st. The dealer only had one key so they had to order a second key. When we brought it in for the key pairing they also mentioned they did an ECU update. I didn't think anything of it but my girlfriend noticed the fuel mileage went down. She maxes out at 50 MPG. She blamed me because I started putting Power Service in the tank with every fill up.

I stopped but the mileage hasn't changed.

I think people are mixing up 2309 (15+) and one for -14 TDI's...
Nope....they said it was 2309 for the 15's....
You and I understand that. However, the dyno results (linked above, and quoted below) are for a 2014 with a different reflash.

Pure bull crap!!!
I averaged 50 mpg in my commute before 2309...I still get 50 after it...2309 was done on my cell the DAY BEFORE DIESEGATE became public at my oil change...
