I recently took my 2015 TDI in for 10K service. The mechanics told me they needed to update the EDU for emissions. Does anybody know the details of what this update is all about?

I didn't see either of these effect. Slightly different regen cycles and a bit of a different cold start routine were the only changes I've noticed. I didn't get a 6 MPG reduction in mileage, that would have been very bad.The ECU update does affect power:

And it reduces MPG by 6 miles (14%):

Speculative discussion on another diesel forum is not a credible source. The ECU update does affect power:

Seconding this! No loss in fuel economy but the first DPF regen I noticed had rpm's bounce up and down instead of holding steady at 1k.I didn't see either of these effect. He's right on someof the points, however this recall has more to do with the older engines that do not use urea. The newer ones are included but I suspect the part that the ECU disables is the regeneration of the DPF. This hasn't been confirmed by VW from what I've read so far. However that seems to make sense since the engine will inject a bit of fuel during the exhaust stroke putting unburned fuel into the exhaust to burn off the excess soot in the DPF.
Are these ^^^ Engines the EA288?Only 15 models with engine codes cvca and crua
Yes they are. CRUA is Golf and Golf Sportwagen. CVCA is Jetta, Beetle, Passat, Audi A3.so I knew someone somewhere who was able to get the TSB 2309 info.

Thanks for the clarification.Yes they are. CRUA is Golf and Golf Sportwagen. CVCA is Jetta, Beetle, Passat, Audi A3.
How recent was this?Damn, I didn't think much of it but I got a red letter notificTjon thing from my local dealer in like may saying I needed to go back in for some kind of ECU software recall/upgrade.
Glad I never did.
Pure bull crap!!!The ECU update does affect power:

Nope....they said it was 2309 for the 15's....I think people are mixing up 2309 (15+) and one for -14 TDI's...

You and I understand that. However, the dyno results (linked above, and quoted below) are for a 2014 with a different reflash.Nope....they said it was 2309 for the 15's....

I averaged 50 mpg in my commute before 2309...I still get 50 after it...2309 was done on my cell the DAY BEFORE DIESEGATE became public at my oil change...
