Hey Guys

Looking at retiring my 2000 TDI with 560,000km on it and buying a brand new 2015. Looking at the highline model, i like leather and all the features.

Just trying to get a feel for what people are paying for there jettas. Was at the dealership tonight, and they give you the ole we only make $500 a car, yet the other sales guy tells me they only sell 40-50 cars a month, im sitting there laughing going maybe other people believe your crap, but selling 50 cars and only bringing profit of $25,000 in every month, how the heck does the sales guys get paid, let alone the lights stay on. Needless to say, i'm just trying to get a feel what others have paid.

I am located in Barrie, Ontario, Canada.

i got into this a bit with my dealer - i know there isn't a lot of profit in those cars, especially if they start giving $1000 off here and $1000 off there.

they make most of there money off maintenance/shop costs.. new car dealerships dont get to negotate there wholesale fixed price.

look on autotrader, craigslist, all over the country.. it will give you a good idea what you should pay, ive flown out of state to buy a CPO because Texas market was flooded at the time and price was $3-4k less than here.. where turbo sedans with manual gearboxes are highly desired.

I bought my TDI when people were panicking about $5 gas prices, they wouldn't budge on the price much.. but I got them to give me an extremely generous trade-in, got $5k more than they initially offered for my RS6

Thanks guys, wish the Canadian dollar wasn't so poor, would make sense to go across the border and pick one up, expect that with how low the dollar is, cheaper up here.

I picked up my 2015 Highline TDI for $37,000 and that was without the technology package. I got it at Maple Volkswagen in Vaughan, my cousin Jimmy is one of the owners of the dealership and gave me a good deal. Ask for Jimmy and let him know Mike Sottile (thats me) sent you and he'll give you a deal.

Does Canada have a version of truecar.com? Start there. I got three good prices then one of the dealers sent a separate email with an even lower price then the certificate. Painless. None of that I only make a $100 on a car stuff or my boss won't let me go lower stuff. Best price right from the start. Only had to negotiate my trade.

Manuals were in short supply when we bought our car, actually. Tornado red would be a nice color.

All turned back to VW. Now a 2017 Hundai Tuscon. Not a single squalk in 10k miles.
Profit or margin on a new vehicle is sort of nebulous as far as getting an accurate number. There's the actual invoice of course, but the invoice is by no means the whole story. The dealer receives incentives for the number of cars he moves and probably a number of other things.

So on the surface there isn't a lot of wiggle room. But look around the dealership. Look at the number of folks employed. Look at the building. Think what it costs to keep the doors open and you have to realize there's a story not being told.

the "story not being told" is the stealership prices on service and maintenance.. The retail parts department are a joke compared to anywhere on the internet and even almost all local parts carriers, and then there paying a staff of lowly techs in the back to bring in $80/hr+ each while being paid just a small fraction of that... They overcharge customers labor and parts to keep the doors open, and under pay there employees.. A Car Salesman dont get a dollar if he dont sell a car, there practically independent contractors.

Thats how they keep there lights on... Only way you get much wiggle room is if your sales rep is willing to eat his commission to get the stats for a bigger prize... show up the last weekend of the month and if you get a guy who is just a sale or two away from a big bonus and he'll give you all his commission without much hassle.

Used car sales dont typically have a maintance department; maby a garage to get cars running for sale, thus they have to make all there money hustling.. and thats why they dont have fancy lots with expensive cars.

Stats if it helps anyone:

2015 TDI SEL DSG (no lighting, no assisted driving thing)
Northern California
Sicker: $31k
Invoice: $27.5k
Paid: $27k +TTL = $29.5k

I had a supplier discount - no negotiation (I don't enjoy it), so it's (Invoice - $500) and you're done. I was in & out with financing in 2 hours. I got the 0.9% for 60 months. Payments are $375/month.

Just purchased a 2015. I got the car for invoice plus about $3000 of dealer installed stuff for nothing. 0.0% financing, no down payment and free 3 year maintainence plan. SE version with DGS. Thrilled with the mileage so far. This is my latest of a long line of TDIs

I think we over paid but twe bought local and we purchased a left over 2014 for 21k
I was going to Atlanta to buy a 2014 tdi beetle with the premium package for 23k but they sold it out from under me knowing I was on my way to get it. I had even filled the credit app and was going down to sign the papers so needless to say they pissed me and I came home to my local dealer and bought my wife the jetta.

I’m looking at a Jetta SEL with headlights/Nav in a 6 speed manual.

$28,900 before tax title and doc fee. It’ll be close to $30K in the end if I do it.

What kind of mileage are you seeing? I haven't entirely discarded the notion of getting another diesel in the event I move out of state and have longer commute times. Is the fit and finish better than the last MY which got beat up for decontented interior?

Fuelly after 9 tanks....33.8! the best tank has been 42.2 but most of my driving is in town....I am not upset with the Fuel Mileage and it is now getting warmer and it is goinf up! I had a 2013 Jetta Hybrid SEL Premium before this car...it had nearly every Option available at the time! I really wanted the HIDS and I love the Fender and Comfortronic so when I found out I could get those options on the TDI I ordered it!
The interior is still not as nice as the Sportwagen but I am happy with it!!

I haven't had mine as long as Tomo366 yet, but so far I have seen better mileage. It might be due to being in warm Arizona!

Tank 1 - 80% highway, 20% city - 50.5 mpg measured.

Tank 2 - 90% city, 10% highway - 43.4 mpg measured.

As a point of reference, I also have a 2010 Jetta Sportwagen TDI with DSG transmission (which I love!) - if I was driving the JSW, I would have gotten about 40 mpg on Tank 1 and about 33 mpg on Tank2.

In terms of the fit-and-finish, de-contented interior, etc. question - I think that the 2015 Jetta is at least as good as the 2010 JSW and the 2015 has much less road noise in the cabin.
