Hey guys, I have 2015 Golf TDI with 96,000 on it, I live in Monmouth county NJ and I wanted to know if anyone knew of a reliable mechanic nearby or not to far away that is highly recommended. I don't want to bring it to the dealership if I don't have to. Also do you guys recommend doing it at 100k or 130k?? Thanks!!!! Also should I do any other service items while doing the belt? I know the water pump should be done too. Thanks

Roman is outside Philly, and Mike Hevster is near Port Jervis. There's probably not a lot of Mk7 TDI TB services that have been done thus far, so that might make your non-dealer search more difficult. TB service on the CRUA is listed at 130k miles, we usually do ours (other TDIs) in advance of the due date. Take a look at this kit for what needs to get done:

I'm in the same boat....
I'm in NJ (jackson) I have a 2015 Jetta with 125,000 on her now.
I can do the belt myself, I had a 2004 TDI before this one and replaced the timing belt twice.
Its not a hard job, just time consuming. It took me 6 hours the 1st time, 4 hours the 2nd.
I'm going to get prices from VW of Toms River and compare it to buying the parts myself.
So far, I fugure $300 for the belt kit, $200 for the alignment tools, plus $150 for oil,DEF and coolant if I do it myself, figure it should thke me around 8 hours... theres a few things different. I'm not looking forward to a weekend of VW wrenching.

I'll let you know what they quote me for a price
FYI.....I've had good luck with VW of Neptune also.

Hey sorry for the delayed response. Thanks so much for the heads up. I’m in between moving right now so I don’t have the means to do it myself. I’m just nervous the dealer is going to mess something up. Yea if you can keep me posted I’d appreciate it. I just wish there was a credible vw diesel mechanic locally

Sure thing. If you have the Mk7 TB service done, let us know how it goes- not a lot of Mk7's with higher mileage yet.

There is a VW/Audi shop in highlands around the corner from my house. My car is under warranty so im being held hostage by poor dealer service but will likely look into them in the future for non warranty work that I either don't have the skill or time to do myself.

they must right? worth a call at least. sign says they've been in business since 1968. I've moved around a ton so i've never been anywhere long enough to have a good shop and my cars run the gamut so a specialist in one doesn't necessarily work for all.

I just had mine done by JasonTDI near Madison, Wis. I did mine at 117k. The tensioner was just starting to splay grease and the timing and serpentine belts were showing micro cracks, so it was all due. I also had my DSG fluid changed as that was also due. Car is running nicely. Trickiest thing for me was putting in the vacation time and estimating how close I would be to 120k. I made the appointment when I just ticked over 116k, and the week it was scheduled I was over 117k by a couple hundred miles. Jason did the belt perfectly from what I observed and it was a far less expensive than the $1947 the dealer wanted to have me pay for the timing belt job alone. The DSG from the dealer would have been about $350 more.

thanks for posting the contact info for Roman! He’s a cool guy, obviously knows what he’s doing, and cares about doing a good job at a fair price. I am certainly going to give him more of my business in the future now that I again own a TDi 😊👍😎

see my reply below...
my new baby is a Mk7 2015 Golf TDi SEL 6-spd with ~ 75k.
Roman said he could tell it was ready for the TB replacement...
He also did the brake fluid for me as he said it is a neglected important job that VW calls for after three years and every two years there after. He said it looked like swamp water when he drained it...😳
