Hi, how are you? I have a question. I don’t know how to handle this so I’m going toreach out. I just purchased a 2015 golf TDIS it does not have the navigation. It just has the regular radio. Is there anyway to install the SE navigation radio into this car Plug-in play ?
Or any VW head unit that has to navigation that will work in the car?

Read about Component Protection...short answer is, they are not plug and play.

Suggestion.... aftermarket units have come a long way...the best android units are plug and play, feel like factory (and at $300 for premium units half the cost if the old standby names). T'eyes units (typical shipped from Australia)are great as are a few other's.
The factory nav can't hold a candle to android units that can support both car play and android auto, and natively run Google maps separately....
If you primarily stream they are the way to go, some being sold with dash pieces that make them look factory. If you like AM radio or HD radio, then conventual aftermarket is a better choice though, but at 2-3x the cost

One issue with aftermarket is resetting the tpms. Unless you have vcds and don't mind having to plug it to set the new pressures every time it's needed.

Actually you can set the vehicle type, make and model....
On many cars that you use the factory screen for setting the clock, controlling heated seats, etc, it has software to do that. Or at least t'eyes has it.
I remember my 2015 Jetta SE did not use the radio for the tpms...
Remember he is going from the basic S
Similarly since the units have canbus integration, they keep full steering wheel controls etc...

Maybe some newer units can do that, but a 2015 Jetta and a Sportswagen are two different animals.

I was actually thinking of this unit ...for my SE Jetta....got totaled a week before I ordered it....same unit just different plastic trim parts and harnesses.
Tossed one in the beater I got as a replacement car I am using for a bit...at $350 I am been impressed will everything but the AM radio
But honestly do your research...this brand is typically considered one of the top 2-3 brands in software+hardware...but another company sells knockoffs shipping from China that are inferior with the same software that's been pirated . The actual company is in Australia with shipping typically out of Hong Kong (DHL Express, 10 days in prep, then to the US east coast in 3) was fast, easy, for and works fantastic. Only issue was the language on my unit wasn't set to English on first boot. The typical Chinese scam sites with lower prices...we all know them....stay away IMHO
I did get the lower end storage/screen resolution to save $$ as it's an interm solution as temporary car as prices drop, but no regrets...
Guess just comes down to how adventures you are in installing thing's.
It was basically plug and play, harness were perfect. Just had to enter models etc to make the steering wheel controls etc work.
Check a couple utube reviews etc for the different brands...both the units and the included trim pieces for fit and finish.

Thank you this has been helpful. I’ve been trying to find something that’ll work with Apple CarPlay. Hopefully, this will be an easy transition into the car.

I have no experience with any aftermarket units. But if you want to stay OEM you can do MIB 2 for under $300 with a little work and some patience (waiting for deals/making offers on eBay). MIB 2 will get you AndroidAuto/Carplay (and either of those wireless with a cheap dongle). If you want factory nav you can pick up an MIB 2 nav unit. TDI S didn't come with nav but it has the GPS antenna and wiring already at the unit.

If you go with the 6.5" screen you don't even need to replace your trim. You always have the option to jump to 8" (matte or glass) screen later. You will have to replace the trim for either of those options.

I installed an MIB2 unit in my Golf SE. It makes a world of difference over the MIB1. It's worth the upgrade for sure.

Check my previous post in this thread for link to instructions.

eBay is your best bet for parts. I wouldn't spend more than 250... 300 absolute max to go MIB 2 with 6.5" screen.

There are multiple threads on golfmk7.com about it. It's definitely worth doing if you're interested in CarPlay/Android Auto. I upgraded mine to the 8" glass screen, and it works well.

Where did you get all the pieces to do this upgrade? I’d really like to do it myself. I see so many things online actual radios at Allied then Apple CarPlay mirroring I’d really appreciate it.

Long ago I bought a RNS315 to upgrade my head unit. Along with the oem rear view camera and gps antennae. Brand new pull out and programmed already from Eurozone Tuning for $329. Pretty much plug and play.

A little patience on eBay and you can get MIB 2 for right around $300. It will not be plug and Play but the link provided has everything needed.

Going MIB2 will keep all your existing functions, add AndroidAuto/CarPlay. Either of those wirelessly using the relatively inexpensive dongles is really nice. And if you go with a nav unit you will have factory navigation as a backup. 2015 TDI s will already have the GPS antenna.

Would this be true for my 2015 Beetle base model as well? Standard head unit currently with no navigation.
Is your 2015 Beetle a true mk7 beast? Or more like a Jetta or NMS Passat which have no component protection?

I don't know, but it shares the CVCA engine with the NMS Passat.
It's more about the rest of the car, rather than the engine. I have both a 2015 Golf Sportswagen, and 2015 Passat. The Passat "car" is kinda stuck on mk5 electronics. Whereas the wagon is full on mk7, which means retrofits are not just plug and play, the CAN gateway does a handshake (component protection) with certain modules (head unit, BCM and maybe others) and flags them as not correct.

The beetle is PQ35 I believe. Quick Google search pulled up articles (from 2015) saying the "next gen" beetle would be MQB. At the time those were projected 2017-18.

But as far as I can see it remained PQ35 until it they stopped making them in 2019. I have to assume that wasn't a spur of the moment decision by VAG so it would make sense they didn't move the beetle over to MQB for a 1-2 year production run.

Well then it probably doesn't have it already there I guess. I have one already but it would have made it easier if one was already there. Thanks for the insight!
