VW will only offer the 2015 Golf TDI in a 4 door hatch back. ( I have a 2010
Golf TDI 2 door hatch back.) Why did this happen? I'm really frustrated they did this!

see sig
because no one bought the 2 door, aside from you.

We didn't even get a 2 door tdi up here in the mk6.

I would prefer the 2 door, so will be going with a TSI. To bad that we don t get the DSG with the TSI.

Just curious, what's the reasoning for preferring a 2-door? Is it just weight saving, or am I missing something else?

I have a '12 2-door. Not sure there were any in '13, and know there weren't any '14s.

Lighter weight, better appearance, simpler. I don't have to look at the B pillar out the passenger window or over my shoulder, and it's much quieter than a 4-door with the front windows down.

I rarely have anyone in the back seat, so the 2-door is a nice option. Besides, I have the Passat and Mercedes if I need 4 doors.

I've been thinking about a Golf R, but won't get one unless they bring the 2 door back. And a manual, of course.

The 2-door Golf & Audi A3 were always uglier than the 4-door models.
No way the 2 door Golf and A3 are much better looking, compared to the 4 doors.
Good that we sometimes have a choice, although I would have been all over an Audi A3 2 door.
Would be a very dull world if everyone liked the same things, would it not CincyAudi?

I would've preferred the 2 door option also! I was really disappointed when I found out that they only made 4 door Golf TDI's. Since I've been driving the new golf I haven't really paid too much attention to that though as the Diesel engine trumps everything. This thing is so responsive, peppy and sounds beefy too that I don't even notice the 4 doors.

Another thing that I think about 2DR. vs 4DR. there are far more 4 door Golfs around.
The 2 door is more unique. Also lighter and like me the back seat does not get used much. Maybe we in North America will get the 2 door TDI Golf in 2016.

I don't want 20 different colors, I want my car with 2 doors. that's not a lot to ask! If VW can't do it I'll take my business elsewhere.

It's just like paint colors; no one offers twenty different paint colors any more.

True, the cars have the same wheel base and go down the same assembly line. So I wee no problem with also doing a two door TDI.
And why not offer more paint colors and a nice cloth seating option?
VW you want to be #1 so give buyers more choices at little or no expense to you.

Why would you offer paint and body choices that almost no buyer chooses? Ten years ago BMW offered about 25 different paint choices and manual transmissions. The last time I checked, only one model had a manual and only about ten different paint colors were available.

Options cost the manufacturer and everyone is looking for ways to reduce costs. Simple business decision.

BMW 2, 3, and 4 series offer manuals. The Z might, too. They do it an odd way: you build the car on their site and a $0 option is to delete the automatic.

BMW has no 2-door diesels in North America. Other than SUVs, they only have the 3 and 5 series, both 4 doors. All automatics. And the 3 series wagon is only available with AWD. Automatic, AWD, run flat tires. That's three strikes for me.

I understand that the 2016 spec. bank or what ever it's called will be out in April.
Then I can see if VW will be offering the TDI MKVII in a 2 door body. That will help make my mind up as will it be a TDI or TSI?

I didn't know that. It's just as well that I stay away from BMW products, I had a BMW 535i that cost me a fortune in repairs.

Has anyone heard any news of a 2-door Golf TDI coming for 2016? They probably won't offer a manual transmission either in favor of all the people that text while driving.

They only reluctantly brought in the MKVII GTI in a 2-door. And the 1.8T Golf is in a 2-door because it's a price leader. Golf R? No 2-door. Just because it would be easy to assemble doesn't mean there's market demand for it. There used to be a 2-door Jetta. Not for 20 years or so, however.

Look at other makers. Ford doesn't have a 2-door Fiesta or Focus here, but they do in Europe. Honda stopped selling a 2-door Civic SI for a while, but finally brought it back. BMW no longer sells a 2-door 3 Series, although their product line is so cluttered I'm not sure it matters. Audi has a 2-door A3 in Europe, not here. Toyota Celica? Supra? Nissan 240SX? All gone.

There are only a few more 2-door cars left in NA than wagons. We must all prefer to drive SUVs with automatic transmissions. Lots of those.

2010 Jetta Sportwagen DSG - Sold back to VW. Replaced with Sportwagen 2.5 GAS
I have 2 door MK V and from 4 years of user exeriene I can tell anybody that besides the looks everything else about 2 doors sucks. You cant throw anything quickly in the back seat, opening the door in a narrower space is a pain and worse the pillar is exactly in the blind spot. I bought the car used because I got an awesome deal on it. Otherwise having choice I will never buy 2 door again. Even if it was an R2.

Yes I second the two door, for looks, lower cost and weight

The OLD DAYS... It was a GOLF + TDI + 2 DOOR... the 4 DOOR was about a $800 option, and then you could get rims, Nav, roof... that was it, no stupid letter models.

The new system of 4-door TDI only + S or SE or SEL sucks, good for VW up-selling...

The 2-door, tdi, manual was the lowest cost, best value, lower empty weight, got best mileage.

I see there are two door gas Golf 2015 models in their VW web site....
VW has the ability to make 2-Dr TDI still, but production lines maybe different.
VW is about making money, simplifying manufacturing makes money.
Offering less variations and options makes it easy for them...
Henry Ford: "can have a car painted any color that he wants so long as it is black"."
Having these stupid meaningless letters is a tradition for the masses...

I like my old '10 JSW DSG... more storage and 4-doors is nice for folding down seat or just putting things back there.
I do drive solo mostly or one passenger.
If I were to buy another VW today to replace my JSW, a used 2013,, 2014 TDI 2-door manual and add hitch.
If I need to carry more get out a small folding utility trailer. With that said I doubt I am coming back to VW or TDI.
If the new Mk7 proves to be super reliable, void of:
HPFP failure (fuel system destruction),
Turbo oil seal failure (exhaust sys destruction),
Serpentine belt failure (foul timing belt engine destruction),
DM Flywheel failure (trans/engine damage) .... I'd consider it.
VW in general and VW dealers specifically (especially one in my area) are not to be trusted.
