I am looking to trade in my Sportswagon for a Tourareg.

Does it have 100k power train warranty or 36K? I see both posted on the web.

Do you have to add the ADblue to it?

Yes, 100k powertrain warranty in the US.

Yes, it uses AdBlue, or it's generic name Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), which can be purchased from almost all auto parts stores and at truck stops. Considering how long a tankful lasts, and its benefit both in cleaning engine emissions and improving mileage, the cost is insignificant. The tank should last 10k miles before needing a fill. I'm unsure the tank size, so can't give a cost to fill, but I'd guess under $30.

10/100 on the power train warranty.

AdBlue tank holds approx 5 gallons. I normally get 8,000 - 10,000 miles between fills. A 2.5 gallon box of Peak DEF (AdBlue) is approx. $13.

Yes, 10 years/100,000 miles, as did the 2012 VW Touareg TDI. 3 years/36,000 miles is normally the new car warranty. Yes you are responsible for getting it done. As part of included service, AdBlue is normally included.

The Xenon lighting & the all wheel drive on the Touareg are useful features in your area. We traded a B6 Passat wagon for the Touareg, no regrets.

The 10/100,000 warranty Matt927 is asking about may NOT be the same as the VW Platinum warranty I was talking about. So the answer I provided may not be relevant. However, the AdBlu and DPF systems are SUPPOSED to be covered to 80,000 mi under the original emissions systems certification and qualification requirements of the Federal EPA. The question of if and when VW actually honors this is still open to discussion.

I've been looking at the same option, but really want to wait until the '15 AWD Golf Sportwagen comes out before I make a decision. Here are a few locally (TN) I've been considering:

In Nashville

I upgraded from a 2010 JSW TDI to a 2014 Touareg Sport TDI. I loved the jetta, but given my height & arthritic spine, it was harder getting in & out. I love the Touareg. Very comfortable, great drive, more zip than the jetta. Fuel economy drops from 28-30 city to 22 or so & on the road from 40 to 30. There's the whole ad blue thing, but they take care of that at the oil changes so you don't need to think about it. Repairs are supposed to be more expensive, but I haven't had any. I'm planning to do the extended warrantee.

Adding Ad Blue is slightly more inconvenient that adding windshield washer fluid. Do a search to get the video to take the mystery or doubt out of the picture. While consumption does VARY, for me it has been app 4.5 gal per 15,000 miles.

PARTS are indeed more expensive.

So for example, I bought tires @ 89,000 miles for 09 VW Jetta TDI oem sized (Continentals) $535.

Cost per mile driven (retail) of the oem set .00784. consumption of 13,692 miles per 1/32nd in. (10- 3.5= 6.5) i do not know the consumption rate of the replacement tires.

Tires for 18 in 12 VW Touareg (took a nail in a non repairable area, needed to change all 4 tires) were $940.

Labor in this case was the same. Preliminary consumption is @ 18,000 miles per 1/32nd in. (12- 1=11/32nd remaining) So PROJECTION ONLY (take down @ 3.5/32nd in, 153,000 mies = .00614 cost per mile driven tires. So IF you feel for you either or both is/are an outlier/s, substitute with your own figures. I do understand that most wear tires FAR faster.
