Hey guys, quick question about the MFI...

Im always snooping through the primary and secondary consumption numbers (1 avg, 2 avg) etc

My avg 2 was about to hit 40 at 39.9 so i kept flipping from consumption the the avg and on one of the times it reset all the 2 averages, even time and miles...

anyone ever had this occur? no big deal? strange?

:confused::confused:

Pressing and holding OK will reset all of the numbers on whichever set you have displayed (1 or 2). It sounds like you pressed OK for too long when you were flipping back and forth.

Oh ok, so i got too button happy flipping through the modes...

Learning something new about the TDI everyday!

PS: at least now I don't have to keep looking for it to avg over 40 as now its way above it... I've been playing catch-up from the demo miles the dealer put on it... i think i got it and the average was low 20s

Off chance you did not do it and just have interesting timing.

2 also resets automatically periodically 1200 miles or so. In my Passat I reset it every time I fuel so 1 is the since start and 2 Is the since fueled

Interesting, well I didn't see it reset after the first 1200 miles.

Strange

I've always done mine the same way. Now that I'm using Fuelly, I am sure finding discrepancies between actual and displayed. I always thought they were closer that that. My last tank had 39.9 on the display and Fuelly calculated it at under 34. Maybe I haven't been filling consistently.

1200 is made up. It resets though. Mine reset between 1 and 2 k

Arc... Most of us see the MFI over estimate by 7-10%. My last tank read just over 60 MPGs and Fuelly came in at 55

I thought the #2 reading reset after 999.9 miles...or is it 9999.9 miles?
#1(active trip) resets after 2 hours of shut down or if you reset it manually.

#2(long trip) resets after 9999.99 miles or 99h 59mins 59secs or if you reset it manually.

Its all in the owner's manual

That is very interesting as I find my display fairly accurate. My calculations (after 3 tanks) have me averaging @ 37-37.5mpg. I have a heavy dose of stop/go traffic, as well as weekend errands around town that mitigate my mileage. Display is reading 37.9 (today 38). I am averaging about 600-650 miles before I fill up, and generally fill 15.5-16.5 gallons. I have a religious conviction against running the fuel tank too low so I may never be able to break 700+ miles on a tank.

I have a hunch that the station I filled up at two times ago pumped it in so fast that the tank didn't fill completely. Yes, I try to top off, but sometimes I'm in a hurry :). The last fuel stop the pump was comparatively slow, and as such may have gotten more fuel in the tank before clicking off. I'm waiting to see how the next tank compares to the MFI before I moan too much about it. :p
