Booked my 2014 VW Jetta for rust warranty 3 weeks ago at Don Valley VW. Was told to expect a call back in 2 months.

Got a call today that VW will cover replacement of 2 Fenders, Hood, Trunk, Rear Quarter Panels, Repair/replace 2 rockers.

A lot of work that will take 2-2.5 weeks.

I asked if they will buy it back rather than spend all the repair time/cost. Was told this isnt an option.

Car has 220,000 kms

Take the repair. Then get it undercoated each winter. Ontario salt eats cars

Ask questions.

Ensure they are going to cut out all rust and not just weld panels over rusted parts...

Will ask these questions Adam. Thx
Reason I mention it is that I bought my son a MK5 golf that had the rockers replaced under the vw 12y warranty - turns out they just welded the rocker panels right on top of the rust... which then rotted through again a few years after.

Had to re-do the rockers myself, even though they had only been done 2 years prior.

DV VWs body in-house body shop is (was) pretty good, hopefully they'll do right by you Gurj

Front fenders, hood, trunk, all easy - rockers and rear quarters are more tempting to cut corners as they're more time consuming to do correctly.

Anyone know if VW should provide a loaner. Dealer is saying they can provide a rental for $40 a day.

I recall back in the day getting a loaner when my 2000 Jetta had fenders replaced under warranty but not when I had the same work done on my 2004 Jetta.

They didn't provide one when I had warranty work done on my '03. That was a couple of years ago. They did do a good job that time. However, I know there has been a change in ownership in recent years.

VW leaves loaner policy up to individual dealers. I understand corporate support has been cut back, and many dealers sold their loaner fleets when inventory was low during the pandemic.

I would push them to cover the rental.

There are just too many to list....
Man, I cannot imagine....

I think I'd have to park my car in a giant tub of WD40 every night if I lived there, LOL.

But boy you guys have nice summers! :)

I will try to push for a loaner. As the dealer will be making a good sum on the repairs on my car.

Thanks

I had my 13 wagon done last year, they didn't even attempt to offer a rental as they said it's not covered and I didn't even bother since dealing with any vw dealer is usually a pain (and it was...). If you can get a rental for free, great, but don't bank on it, that's my 2 cents.

I picked up a 2012 Sportwagen and took it to the dealer for rust through warranty work.
It was rejected.
Their response:

"Customer Concern: CUSTOMER STATES THERE IS A HOLE RUSTED THROUGH THE HATCH ABOVE THE THIRD BRAKE LIGHT

Decision Remarks: The request is declined. Please refer to section 1.4 of Warranty Policies and Procedures (Failure to take the vehicle to an authorized Volkswagen dealer upon discovery of a defect in material or workmanship.) Neglect has resulted in a much more extensive repair versus if the concern had been addressed in a timely manner. Thank you.

I was under the impression that it had to be rusted through in order to qualify, which it definately is.

Too many.
Back in the day when I brought my B5 wagon in I was told the rust bubbles were not bad enough to quality. Then I took it back 2 years later with holes and they claimed neglect. Bastards are doing whatever they can to avoid payout. VW has gone downhill since the 90s and I would likely not buy any of their newer products.
