The 2013 a6 with 3.0t is 50k so it's not that much of a mark up for a new MY , tdi engine and whatever other goodies are forced into the package.

Different people jump different ways. One acquaintance who is a long-time SAAB devotee like us went with a new A6. We drove a new Passat TDI SEL Premium home yesterday. One ship travels East, another West, and there's no way my ship can justify sixty thousand clams for transportation.

HOLY! 428 TORQUES! 0-60 is pretty awesome. Again, Audi has always been much more than Vw so the numbers aren't surprising. You can't compare the Passat with the A6, at least not the new ones.

Agreed. Our 3.0 TDI Touareg has 406 ft/lbs torque and it's a different vehicle because of it.

No at all. it's luxury segment car, and coming to US since BMW is bringing their diesel for 5-series. Also it's AWD with bunch luxury features and interior is amazing. I love All-road Audi, I hope it will be available as diesel.

"Better buy"? Depends on what you want. I stopped and looked at a '13 A6 at a local car lot today, mostly because I was curious as to why it was at a Dodge dealer, especially when I saw it had 1K on it. That aside, the car is beautiful. The interior is so much nicer than any VW (with the possible exception of the Touareg) that it looks like it's from a different company. And I'm betting power at all speeds, road and tire noise, ride quality, and handling will put the Passat to shame.

But for twice as much money it should. Like I said, depends on what you want. Honestly I'd be embarrassed to drive it. I'm happier in my 11 year old wagon or 15 year old Passat.

I hope one day we shall have a VW Wagon - with the same 4 cyl TDI as in our Passats, may be slightly boosted to ~300 FP torque and 160HP, raised 1.5-2" and with 4-motion. Now that would be a car to die for and I could consider dropping 2-3 MPG for something like that

Truth is my Passat is all I need the 99% of the time and the 1% when it is 10" of snow outside, I take my HEMI GC, problem solved

I'd drive it! And I'm a little disappointed they didn't have it available this year. Ohh well, maybe when the depreciation curve flattens out a bit.

What they need to do is take the Passat, Turn it into the Wagen they have for Europe (see pic), but make it have the A6's drive line set up. RWD or AWD, turn that motor N-S configuration instead of E-W...

I can't wait for this above model for US market with TDi. Otherwise I will stick with Volvo XC70. Because I don't see reason to get Passat over Volvo if unless Passat is TDi.

One thing I don't like in the new Passat ALL road wagon is incline/slope roof at the end of the car. They should keep traditional wagon roof.

Found this today in Edumunds Not shy about pricing. And the FE numbers are kind of disappointing when compared to the gasoline cars. Of course we know that the diesels have a far greater likelihood of achieving those numbers.

I would bet it is all about the money as the A6 V-6 commands a higher price and boosts the profit margins in a big way. Plus Audi figures the American buyer is all about the HP and could careless about the MPG and is willing to plunk down 60K+ for a car. Jeez one can buy 2 SEL's for that price.

From the way they were flying by us on the A7 highway they were not down on power!

I understand the 3.0 V6 has a heavy tax on it in the EU which makes the 2.0 a much easier decision.

Often time many of the high end features trickle down over the years to the other, cheaper models. It will be interesting to see what future Passat TDI incorporate.
