2013 TDI wagon oil drains overnight

This car, 2013 TDI Jetta Sportwagon with 200k miles, started rattling when first started after sitting overnight. It really sounds like oil has drained out of the valve train/cam supply passages and it takes 5-15 seconds to refill the passages and the engine sound changes abruptly to a normal engine sound. Dipstick is 3/4 high. No low pressure alarm displays. Once the car is started and smoothes out, it won’t happen anymore that day. And, it doesn’t always occur after sitting overnight.
My thoughts: it seems like there is a ball check valve in the oil supply system that leaks sometimes by a spring broken or ball deformed. I surmise the oil pressure switch is close to or in the oil pump as it doesn’t trip the alarm switch.
anyone experienced and solved this? Thanks, Steve.

Cam followers (lifters) are not likely to all drain, maybe just the ones held by the cam lobes at that engine stop position, but not all of them.
There's oil enough in the followers to NOT be 'collapsed' enough to allow cam to follower clearance clatter even if the cam supply gallery passages had drained overnight and the oil flow at re-start hadn't yet gotten oil up top that day.

But,...... 200k miles was right about when the cams in my 1Z/AHU, ALH, and BHW were beginning to wear. I think it's time to pull the cover and take a close look. From my experiences I'd be anticipating a cam and new followers (belt, and belt driven items).

About the oil I’m using in my 2011 and 2013 VW TDIs: Shell Rotella T6 5w40 synthetic Extreme Temperature synthetic. Both cars have 220k miles.

There are just too many to list....
Are you using the proper VW 507 spec oil?
So, no, no he isn't.

Also, no comparison should be made to the SOHC VE and PD engines. The CR is completely, totally, 100% different.

I'd start by using the correct oil, with a good filter, and see if it improves.

I hope they're both deleted. But i'd think the 40w is less likely to drain than 30w, if that's indeed what's happening.
