I recently had my HPFP go out, while driving (8 miles after filling up at a chevron). I tried a claim with company, but was unsuccessful, as their diesel gas came back as testing good. Just a coincidence I guess, that I broke down just after, on a 1,200 mile road trip.
Anyway, I first assumed it was my lift pump as I was not getting the "prime" stage out of it (and actually I still do not).
That did not cure it, and went on to discover the HPFP had the notorious metal shavings in it. I replaced that and filter, and cleaned my lines (I used brake clean and compressed air). That did not work, so I ordered new fuel injectors. That did not work, so i ordered a new pressure regulator, as I was throwing a low pressure pending code (never became current). That did not work.
My auxiliary pump seems to be fine, and I tried "priming system" by jumping that pump, as well. Still not starting, and not sure what else to do. My nearest dealer is over an hour away, and last time I took my car in (for a tire light) they tried screwing me over, and said they fixed the issue n light was off, well that was a lie, as it was still on. I complained n they said it now needs further diagnosis, at another $99+ an hour, so I told them to screw off. Next closest dealer is over 2 hours away, and I just don't trust dealers, so hoping this community can help me out here. I've read a few forums on here, one where a guy struggled for months (like me ) and hus final solution was the injectors (which I replaced with new ones). I've got a background in automotive, ran my own shop for about 20 years, but never got into computers and software, for this kind of stuff. I always sent my customers to other shops I got good feedback from, or dealers (back when they were somewhat honest). Now I'm in a new location, Sandia TX, and have no where to turn to for help. Local shops won't touch it, so dealer is only option, so trying to avoid that, if I can, as I've got over $5,000 into the repair process, so far.
